Apple Return Policy Open Box

Note the standard refund policy applies only to products purchased directly from Apple or at an Apple Retail Store. If the item was purchased online, Apple specifies a return period of 14 days, which technically begins the day that you receive the product. Keeping this in mind is particularly important, since Apple gives you just 14 days to return products. Apple offers a simple 14-day refund and exchange policy to Apple customers.

Outside the exceptions listed, any device or product purchased by Apple is eligible to be returned within 14 days. As long as you have the original packing, including any accessories, manuals, and documentation, Apple stores will accept unopened returns during your return window. Keep in mind that Apples 14-day window is from the day of receipt, so if you ordered something and it took a week to arrive, technically, you have three weeks from your date of purchase to start a return.

If you are unhappy with an iPhone, or any Apple purchased item, you can return it within 14 days of purchase at the Apple Online Store. If you are not completely satisfied with your iPhone/iPad purchase, you may return the undamaged iPhone/iPad to Apples online store in 14 calendar days from the date that you received the item(s) to get your money back.

If you do not have your receipt or proof of purchase, you may return Apple products as gifts. If this is a gift returned along with a gift receipt, then the recipient will get an Apple Gift Card instead of cash back.

If you make a trade-in for a lower-value item, then the difference will either be added to the Apple Gift Card or reimbursed to your original payment method…your choice. You can get either an Apple gift card for the amount gifted OR do a product swap of equivalent value.

If you are on the web, head over to your Apple Account page and choose Return Gift to begin, or you can bring the product into any Apple Store and ask if it is eligible for a return gift. If you received an Apple product as a gift, but you do not want to keep it, you can return your item just as easily online. If you ordered the item online and the product arrives damaged, you can return it at any Apple store, or contact customer service at 1-800-676-2775.

If the item you purchased, or a gift you received, was personalized, like an engraved iPad, then Apples returns options are different — because, well, engraved, that device would be impossible for another customer to sell. If you wish to return a device purchased at one of Apples brick-and-mortar retail stores, then, in addition to the product, you will need to bring your original receipt, packing, and included accessories. Suppose you purchased your Apple product through an authorized dealer or at a different retail outlet, such as Walmart or Best Buy. In that case, you are covered by the respective retailers refund policies, not Apples.

If the purchase is hardware, such as an iPhone or an Apple Watch, there should not be any problem completing a return and receiving your full refund, even with the purchase still open. Apple does not generally accept returns on those purchases, though software returns may be accepted if you have opened the box, but the inside packaging remains sealed (indicating that software has not actually been installed on a device). There are just a few exceptions, since you cannot return opened software (software purchased at the store which has already been installed on the device), e-software downloads or upgrades, Apple print products, or Apple gift cards (this includes the Apple Store gift cards from previous generations, as well as the App Store & iTunes gift cards).

If a product was purchased through the Apple online Store, you will be able to visit this page (UK) or this one in the U.S., and type in its serial number to see whether or not it is eligible for a refund. If it is eligible for return, you will have a choice to either bring it into an Apple Store, or you will have to send it in by post. Apple will let you know when Apple has received your item and issued a refund. To return items to Apple, log into Online Order Status using your Apple ID and password.

For eligible products, you have up to 14 calendar days from when you received the product(s) to begin a return. If any item(s) is returned after the stated return period;(b) has been physically damaged, altered, or damaged by liquid; or(c) is missing any parts(s), you will receive no refund of your purchase price. If you return any items, including by mistake, after the 30-day return period, you will not get any credit, and any returned items will not be returned to you.

If you return defective, damaged, or wrong item, then once the return is processed, you will receive your full shipping fee back, plus the deposit for your import fee. Items in Drop Collections are eligible to return, however, a postage return cost will be deducted from the amount of the refund you are owed, because the items were made-to-order for you. Once your return label is scanned and received, you will get your immediate refund. For most returns from Amazons global store, you will receive a UPS pre-paid return label that allows you to send your product(s) back to any UPS Drop-Off location located throughout the United States.

You may apply for a return or refund for any reason within 100 days after receiving your shipment. Once you make known your intention to return the product prior to the expiration of 14 days after you purchased it, you will have an additional 14 days within which you may make arrangements for pickup or drop the item off at one of Apples pick-up locations. Returns do not include items which are covered by third-party contracts, such as phones, cellular tablets, and wearables (which have a 14-day return window), or holiday products, such as tree decorations, and large appliances, which have a 15-day return window. Apple is happy to trade or refund any purchase made at its stores or online, without any reason needed except that you decided you did not want it, you just have to start your return within 14 days of purchase (unless a Christmas refund policy applies — in that case, you have until Jan. 8 to start the return).
