To access AQI readings on your Apple Watch, you need to have the Air Quality complication added to your watch face. To do this, press and hold on the watch face, tap “Customize,” and then swipe left or right until you find the Air Quality complication. Tap on the Air Quality complication and then tap “Add.”

While Apple does not have an Air Quality Index native app, Apple does offer AQI information that you will want within its own native Weather app. Fortunately, the U.S. EPA created a resource called Air Quality Index (AQI) that helps track air quality to understand what effects it can have on your health. In the United States, the air quality measure is based on an air quality index (AQI) ranging from 0-500, with lower numbers representing better air quality and higher numbers being considered unhealthy.

The AQI is a measure used by EPA and other government agencies to describe the relative safety of air quality in a local area. The AQI made its debut in 1968, when the National Office of Air Quality Control took the lead in developing the Air Quality Index and applying that methodology to metropolitan statistical areas.

Steps
OpenOpen the Watch app on your iPhone.
SelectSelect a Watch face to add the AQI complication on
Tap Tap on the Complication that you want to change
Scroll Scroll down to Weather options, and select AQI

The AQI system looks at five main air pollutants regulated under the Clean Air Act–namely, ground-level ozone, carbon monoxide, particle pollution (or particulate matter), sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide–to compute an air quality score, which can range anywhere from zero (healthy air) to 500 (dangerous air). The proposed AQI would consider eight pollutants (PM 10, PM 2.5, NO 2, SO 2, CO, O 3, NH 3 and Pb) for which there are short-term (up to 24 hour averaged periods) national ambient air quality standards.

The AQI reports on how clean or contaminated air is in your local area, as well as the effects breathing outdoor air might have on your health. The AQI focuses on health effects that you might experience in the hours to days following breathing contaminated air. The AQI may rise because air emissions are increasing (for example, in rush-hour traffic or when a forest fire is burning in an upwind direction) or because there is not enough dilution of air pollutants.

Learn How can I get value for AQI on an apple watch

You can check the AQI (Air Quality Index) on Apple Watch by adding an AQI display to your watch face. The Apple Watch has a Complication for Air Quality Index you can add to your watch face of choice, so data is just a swipe away on your wrist. It is easy to add the AQI-titled complication to a lot of watch faces, so you can track the air quality in your area at the flick of a finger.

To see weather info on the Apple Watch, you can either tap the Weather complication from your watch face, or you can open the Weather app (via a sea of app bubbles). Just like your iPhone, Apple Watch has a weather app, in which you can check weather conditions and predictions for a listed selection of cities.

No matter where you are traveling, you will always get quick assistance from AirVisual regarding weather conditions and AQI. If a basic weather app does not have the AQI for your location available, or you simply want a specialized AQI app, you can use a third-party AQI app such as airmatter. Your Apple Watch already has an integrated AQI built-in to the Basic Weather app installed on your device.

There are a variety of apps to help get you the AQI info you need, and Apple has this info built right into the Weather app as well. When you tap a town in the Weather app, and swipe down, you can see AQI info for the town. It is very easy to toggle from one country to another and find out the latest AQI levels of any given location.

Because of its data sources, you can see historic, real-time, and projected AQI data, as well as details about key pollutants in an area. Plume Labs provides live AQI and pollution levels data for your area, and for any area around the world.

AirVisual has also integrated pollution maps around the world, both 2D and 3D, so that you can plan trips accordingly. This elegant app also provides essential information to those in a sensitive category, with educational resources that will help you to develop an understanding of PM2.5 and other air pollutants, as well as learning to best manage air pollution. If you own the Air Visual Air Monitor, you can even check the readings for your indoor air quality, receive recommendations, and manage the settings on the monitor directly from the app.

For anyone with breathing issues, or living in areas where pollution is a frequent concern, the BreezoMeters air quality app is an essential app to have on both their iPhones and Apple Watches.

Not only does it provide AQI, it sends alerts whenever the weather is covered with dangerous, toxic smoke. You can call up the Siri app and request air quality health recommendations for a city, and it gives you a wealth of information via the weather app on Apples new iOS 14.3 update. The new iOS 14.3 update will now provide you with air quality health recommendations through both the Weather app and Siri app on your iPhone.

Inside the Weather app on iPhone, there is now a section detailing Air Quality and Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) as measured across Canada, with the last rating being a very high risk for health.

Again, iPhone helps with knowing air quality (and poor air is made up of pollutants, allergens, pollen, and may lead to health problems). Not only can you view air pollution index, you can put widgets on the smartphone home screen. The easiest way to find out about air pollution is simply by going through your browser to any of the websites listed below, finding a city that interests you, and reading about it.

Your Apple Watch will show you your local AQI in a number between 0 and 500 – the lower the number, the safer the air is around you.

AQI parameters differ from one country to the next, but you can be assured that it will translate the same way it is measured in your own country. Indicators like fresh, moderate, high, etc., you do not have to look at numbers specifically because indicators like fresh are a general indicator of the AQI and the weather conditions. To accurately represent the present air quality, the averages for multiple hours used in the calculation of AQI must focus on current times, but because concentrations for hours into the future are not known and are hard to estimate precisely, EPA uses proxy concentrations in order to estimate these averages over multiple hours.

Why is AQI not showing on Apple Watch?

Check whether you can view the AQI reading for a particular location by going to the Watch app > Weather and changing your default city to a big city. Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone, then pair them again if you’re still having issues with this complication: Erase and de-pair your Apple Watch.

What is AQI on Apple Watch?

AQI, or Air Quality Index, is a feature on Apple Watch that provides real-time information on the air quality in your area. It uses sensors and data from nearby air quality monitoring stations to calculate the AQI, which ranges from 0-500 and indicates the level of air pollution.

How do I view AQI on my Apple Watch?

To view AQI on your Apple Watch, you need to add the AQI complication to your watch face. Press and hold your current watch face, then tap “Customize.” From there, scroll down to “Complications” and tap on one of the available complication spots. Then, select “AQI” from the list of complications and customize it as desired.
