Samsung watches can be connected to an iPhone via Bluetooth. Some watches are allowed to connect with android phones. If you connect your watch to the iPhone, you can share your images, files and videos etch from your watch to the phone easily.

Although Samsungs watch is designed for use on Android devices, it is compatible with iPhones as well. Unlike its latest smartwatch, which is designed for iPhones, Samsungs Galaxy Watch 5 smartwatch works on both iOS and Android devices. The Samsung Watch can connect with an iPhone over Bluetooth, and it will run with most of the same features that an Android device has.

Once connected, you can utilize all the features on the Samsung Watch, including notifications, fitness tracking, and more. You will need to download the Samsung Gear app from the app store and follow the on-screen instructions to pair your device.

There is no replacement for the Watch app on Android, though you can use Bluetooth connections with your devices. Use a Samsung Account to connect a mobile device to your watch remotely via WiFi or Mobile Data. You need to connect your watch to Wi-Fi and log into your Samsung Galaxy account on your mobile device to activate receiving.

Once connected, you will see your watches status in the app home screen on your iPhone. You cannot use a Samsung watch to send texts to an iPhone, though you can receive text alerts on your watch. To be safe, you can use your smartwatch for keeping tabs on messages, and then respond to them using your iPhone later, should you be out of range at that time. In case you are wondering, this discrimination is just for iPhones, since you can send, receive, and reply to messages notifications as long as your watch is paired with a Galaxy phone.

As you may have gathered, the App Store is only partly functional if you connect the Samsung Galaxy Watch with an iPhone, so expect to see some apps you cannot see and use. The Galaxy Watch – particularly if a Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 comes out – will be able to connect with iOS devices running iOS 9.0 and higher, which is going to be the case with iPhone 5s and later models. It is not clear why Samsung decided to not offer iPhone compatibility on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, but iPhone compatibility may find its way into an upcoming Galaxy Watch 5 model, provided that no hardware or software limitations remain.

The forthcoming Pixel Watch does not currently mention any iPhone compatibility, and support is limited to phones running Android 8 and up. With support for the iPhone now coming from both the next-generation Wear OS 3 and Samsungs Galaxy smartwatches, this will not be much of an issue for Apple. As ArsTechnica notes, recent Wear OS devices, or at least the Galaxy Watch 4 models, are not Apple-compatible, meaning that prospective buyers cannot pair a device with an iPhone that is present.

With iOS being one of the dominant players in the smartwatch market, Samsung is hurting Samsungs chances at competing with their U.S.-based competitors if many potential users cannot really pair the smartwatches. Galaxy Watches are manufactured by Samsung, and the iPhone belongs to Apple — two of the biggest competitors in the world, and yet, astonishingly, they work really well when combined with Bluetooth and the Galaxy Watch app. Samsungs smartwatches have always worked well with iPhones, though in some cases the functionality is limited.

While an iPhone user may find the idea of owning a Samsung smartwatch to be ludicrous, Samsung has supported this over the years. While you may be thinking that Samsungs latest move is creating a bit of an exclusive, similar to the Apple Watchs exclusivity in its iPhones compatibility, this is actually not the case. No iPhone, iPad, or other iOS devices are supported by Samsungs latest smartwatch, which is why Apple users would do well to consider the best of Apples wearables to be a companion.

If you have an iPhone and are strongly committed to wearing the Galaxy Watch, you may still want to go for a previous-generation watch running Tizen OS, such as Samsungs Galaxy Watch 3 or Galaxy Watch Active 2, which both still stand as some of the best Galaxy smartwatches. Even if Samsung eventually ditches its proprietary Tizen OS for smartwatches starting with the Galaxy Watch 4 line, Samsungs older Galaxy watches will still be compatible with an iPhone. Samsung is not switching any of its older models over to Samsung-powered Wear OS, which means that they will continue running Tizen, and continue supporting iPhones as they have all along.

In other words, Samsung is not going to drop iOS support from its Tizen products. It is definitely unfortunate to see that the iPhone user is left with only one choice when it comes to support on a smartwatch. Most smartwatches that are compatible with Android smartphones typically also offer Apples iOS support. But this tune may change.

The inclusion of the latest Wear OS, developed by Google and Samsung together, rather than the Tizen operating system used by the earlier-generation Google Galaxy watches means that the Galaxy Watch 4 will not work with the iPhone. One of Samsungs first watches that boasted iOS compatibility was 2016s Gear 2 smartwatch. Since Galaxy Watch 4 requires a smartphone with support for Google Mobile Services (GMS) in order to activate, it limits the compatibility to Android devices, just as the Apple Watch requires an iOS device in order to activate and work.

Because Samsung likes to keep the standards Samsung sets high, you might not be able to pair the device if you have an iPhone older than the 9.0 release. Meanwhile, Siri would be of no help in connecting the Samsung Galaxy Watch, since it will just tell you to carry on with your actions in Apple. When the Samsung watch is connected to an iPhone, the Samsung Bixby assistant works, but you cannot use Siri from the watch.

This is, in all reality, a rather silly way of using the Apple Watch, particularly considering that it requires the iPhone to be set up in any case. You could also re-set your existing PIN, or install a Reactivation Lock on the watch, making it unusable by anyone.

Can you text on Samsung watch with iPhone?

At this time, the Galaxy Watch does not support text answering using an Apple® iPhone®. As the instructions below only apply to the most recent version, make sure your Galaxy Watch software is up to date from your AndroidTM smartphone.

Are Apple or Samsung watches better?

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 competition lacks a clear victor. For iPhone users, the Apple Watch is the best option, while for Android users, the Galaxy Watch 4 is the best option. But now that Samsung and Google have partnered, it may be able to appeal to Fitbit users by offering the best Fitbit products.
