You can very easily change sleep time on your Mac by altering some state settings. All you have to do is go to settings, and then click on system settings in the Apple Menu. From there, click on the menu beside “Turn Display Off On Battery When Inactive”, and select your sleep settings from there.

The following menu lets you configure what time Mac goes to sleep and when it will wake on specified days. You can also set a sleep timer to have your Mac automatically go to sleep and wake at certain times. Once you set a schedule, you can keep your Mac up and ready for work every morning, whenever you are, or put it down to sleep, or turn it off at the end of every day.

Here are some things to consider before setting up a schedule for when to wake, sleep, boot, shutdown, or reboot your Mac. To set up a schedule to wake your Mac, or start it up, take these easy steps.

Instead of having a wake up and sleep schedule, you can make sure that your Mac is turned off, or even rebooted, at the same time each day, if you would like. You do not need to use both a start-up or wake up, as well as the shutdown or sleep settings in your Mac. You can even prevent the system from going to sleep automatically under Advanced Displays.

If you would like to have the Macs display go to sleep after a certain amount of time, but you do not want the computer to go to sleep, use the Turn off Display Aftera switch. Go to System Preferences > Battery > Power adapter Choose Stop the computer automatically going to sleep when display is off Move slider to Never. Click on the pop-up menu next to Turn off display when power adapter is idle to the right, and choose an option.

Now, click Power Adapter on the left-hand menu to configure the Macs idle time when the laptop is charging or connected to power. The easiest way to prevent the Mac from sleeping is to slide this slider all the way to the right (under the Battery and Power Adapter tabs) to Never, and then press OK when asked to confirm. In the left-hand menu, click on Battery to configure the Macs sleeping time when the laptop is running on battery power.

Your Mac is configured to sleep after a set time period in order to help save power, or the battery, on your laptop. If you wish to put your Mac to sleep (or turn off your Mac or reboot) after the specified time, you must do this using Terminal.

Clicking this opens up a menu that lets you stop your Mac from sleeping for a certain period of time. You can configure your Mac to automatically enter Sleep after being idle for a certain period of time. With sleep mode, your Mac stays powered up, making it easy to quickly wake your Mac and be at work almost instantly. To conserve energy and avoid wear on Macs, Apple implemented the sleep mode, which typically kicks in after a period of inactivity.

Of course, if you change your mind later, you can return to this section of the Macs settings and configure the computer again to enter sleep mode automatically after a specific period.

Using the Power Saver option in System Preferences, you can modify the settings on your Mac to turn off auto-sleep mode. If you would like to have your Mac automatically sleep after a set amount of time, find the slider marked Turn Off Display After under the Energy Saver preferences.

Click and drag on the slider to set the length of time you would like to wait for the Mac to go into Sleep. With just a few clicks, you can easily adjust when you want a Mac to wake. While you now know how to prevent Macs from sleeping using the Power Saver, this is not the best option when, say, you just want your Mac not to sleep during the next hour, but act in a regular, battery-friendly manner for the rest of the day. If your Mac does not sleep after the time you specified in Energy Saver preferences, then it is possible network activity or an active process (such as an app or a background system task) is keeping your Mac awake. Having the Macs screen go blank while performing a critical task simply because you have not touched your keyboard or mouse for a while may be frustrating, but turning off Sleep Mode entirely results in higher energy usage and excess wear on your system.

Apple lets you put your Mac into automatic sleep after a set time period (between one minute and three hours). You can choose to sleep the Mac immediately, either for battery savings or for privacy, or you can also delay the Macs sleep time so that you can load files or listen to music for longer periods of time without interference.
