How Many Iphones Are There
Over the years, Apple has produced a total of 34 iPhones (38 if they release the four new iPhone 14 models). Beginning with Steve Jobs’ 2007 introduction of the first iPhone, we’ve provided you with a thorough overview of every iPhone iteration. As of February 2022, there were 124.7 million iPhone users in the US.
The total iPhones sold through 2018 are estimated at about 2.2 billion, with 1.2 billion of them still in use. Estimates are that over 2.2 billion iPhones have been sold since the release, and through 2022.
Since its introduction, over 1.9 billion iPhones have been sold. As of 2022, Apple has sold over 2.2 billion iPhones, with over 1.2 billion active. Apple has released 29 total iPhones in that years time span, including its latest line, iPhone 12, and iPhone SE (second-generation).
Not only did they launch the iPhone SE (second generation) back in April, but they launched another four iPhones during the delayed Fall ad, completing their current line-up with the iPhone 12 lineup. Apple has released no less than three new iPhones each year for the past two years, leaving us biting our nails to see just how much Apple has improved on its latest models. On September 10, 2013, Apple revealed two new models of the iPhone at its press event in Cupertino.
After years of keeping much the same design, Apple dropped a few eyebrows by unveiling the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Less than 11 months after the release of its new iPhone, Apple, riding on the success of its earlier releases, released the iPhone 3G(S) on June 19, 2009. Since then, Apple has released new models of iPhones every year, as well as updates to Apples iOS mobile operating system.
Since releasing the first iPhone way back in 2007, Apple has introduced new models every year that feature improved features, improved camera quality, and better operating systems. On September 12, 2017, Apple formally unveiled the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, featuring new glass designs, improved cameras, a True Tone display, wireless charging, and enhanced system performance. On September 7, 2016, Apple unveiled the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, which added waterproofing and dust-resistance, improved system and graphics performance, a new iPhone 6 Plus dual-camera configuration, new color options, and featured the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack from iPhones.

On the same day, Apple released the iPhone 11 Pro, a slightly larger iPhone featuring an apparent triple-camera rear. That same day, Apple released the iPhone 11 Pro Max, the pricier handset by far. Apple also significantly upgraded its specs and hardware, giving it a look the iPhone 4 was a phone that Apple had been working on since 2007.

Another massive hit for Apple, the 12-megapixel camera, along with the 2GB storage was a total upgrade to Apples tech, growing at levels that were above the previous iPhones, as well as a lot of Apples competitors handsets. The leap worked, too; the iPhone 3GS was among the best-selling phones during the iPhone 3GS era, drawing millions of new users into the Apple ecosystem. The press liked the handset, as did punters; the Apple iPhone 3GS sold extremely well, hanging on for a couple years until it was discontinued in 2012.
The iPhone 6 Plus became the de facto flagship, setting the trend Apple would continue to follow in future years, except with the iPhone X (which was launched on its own). Well, Apple skipped that one too, going directly into the iPhone X, a decision made on the basis of the fact it was released in the 10th year since the original iPhone. The iPhone was Apples first ever mobile device, and was largely panned in the press at the time.

In terms of usage, Apples iPhone has nearly one-quarter of the overall market share in smartphones, making it the worlds most popular smartphone. Going back to its earliest days, that figure has been pretty steady; iPhones market share was 19.2% of the total US smartphone users. Since 2010, the proportion of iPhone users globally has been somewhere between one-fifth to one-quarter of global smartphone users.
The global Apple iPhone user population has more than doubled over recent years, rising from 569 million in 2015 to more than 1.2 billion as of 2022. Despite its price, Apple iPhone users continue to increase at a rapid rate over recent decades: From just 11 million users in 2008, there will be more than one billion users by 2022. Let us look more closely at those iPhone statistics, along with a few other fascinating pieces of information, including number of users, demographics of iPhone users, and other statistics showing just how widespread iPhones are worldwide.
With over 1.2 billion iPhone users around the globe, you can certainly expect to see a few more fascinating iPhone facts and statistics on iPhone. While exact numbers for Apple users are not available, Apples CEO Tim Cook claims that in the first quarter of 2022, Apple had more than 1.8 billion active devices globally. About a fifth of all active iPhone units are in the U.S., not surprising given that this is Apples biggest market.
Even if Apples unit sales stagnate over the last two years, Apple has added a larger number of active iPhone users each year. Apple saw double-digit iPhone year-over-year growth from 2008 through 2015, but revenues have stalled ever since. Apple generated $274 billion in revenue in 2020, 50% of which came from sales of the iPhone.
Apple says it has more than a billion iPhones now in active use, an impressive milestone for the company and one that speaks to the phones continued success and longevity. In some markets, such as the United States, iPhones are already a major part of smartphone purchases. Specific markets such as the United States, Canada, and Japan have shown preferences towards the iPhone.
The 5G 12 connectivity, the first for iPhones, has also generated hype, with Greg Joswiak, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple, calling it the beginning of a new era for the iPhone, according to the Apple press release. Taking into account the models in the Apple era, the X era will not end until 2019 with the iPhone 8 series, however, these phones are still very similar to iPhone 4s as well as the iPhone XS/XS Max.
