How To Block Someone On Macbook

If you have contacts that just will not stop bombarding your Mac with a barrage of messages, and you are having setbacks trying to block them, this tutorial on how to block someone on your Mac can help you tone down that irritation.

If someone on the Macbook Pro has blocked you from iMessage on their Macbook, you will be unable to send messages to that person. You might also notice the persons name no longer appears on your Contacts list or group conversations, another indication of being blocked. When you block a contact in Messages, the persons text messages will not show up in the pre-installed Messages app on the MacBook.

Another method is to go to Settings > Messages > Blocked contacts and tap New to add a new blocked contact. To unlock the person, return to your blocked contacts list, swipe left on the contact you would like to reinstate, and select Unlock.

Then, tap on the Add button, and choose a contact in the list of contacts that you want to lock. Open up the Contacts app on your Macbook and swipe across the list until you find a contact that you want to block.

Tap Block numbers and messages, and then choose Block numbers, where you can enter a contact number manually and hit the + sign, or select from the Inbox or contact list.

When you make your selection, the contacts name, number, and associated email will be added to your blocked list. Once the number is added to the Blocked list, calls and messages from this contact will be blocked across all of your Apple devices. Sometimes, when you add phone numbers directly to your Block list, messages from those contacts can still reach you via other Apple devices.

This is not the case with SMS, if you block a number on your phone, its SMS messages will still get synced with your Mac. If there are people or phone numbers that you do not ever want to hear from, you can block their FaceTime calls or text messages and they never find out. The only way to completely break off contact with someone using iMessage is to block their phone number via their carrier and disable Messages on the Settings app.

For iMessage, the person you want to block has to be on your contacts, as opposed to iOS 7, which does not require that person to be on your contacts list. Since the person is in your contacts, you can block them later, but I really did not want to get spam lists on my contact list. The + button immediately brings you to your contacts list, and you can choose from the contacts list who you would like to block.

Enter all or part of a blocked phone number so Messages will recognise it when someone attempts to send a message from this blocked number, and then tick Stop message. Just as you do for messages, you can view the list of blocked numbers, as well as add to or remove them, by going to Preferences > Blocking.

A blocked number may call you and leave you a voicemail, but your phone will not ring, and you will receive no notifications; you will not know the call is there until you look at the voicemail. In this situation, the person will not get your missed call, and your voicemail is sent to his or her “Blocked Messages” folder. Check under recently sent messages; if you do not see the notification that says ” Delivered”, it may mean that you have been blocked.

You can also configure Mail app to deliver emails from blocked senders to your inbox, but flag it with a banner, so that you know that you may want to just delete the message. For example, you can choose in the first field to Delete messages, which will cause Mail to automatically delete any messages from this sender. You can easily block emails on Mac if you do not want to receive any emails from a particular sender using Mail app.

Do not worry, you can always unblock email addresses on your Mac as easily as blocking them, so do not hesitate to act and block the unwanted messages.

In the Blocking pane, click on the Add button and type in the persons email address that you would like to block. In the Messages app, open the conversation with the person and tap on the information symbol. One way involves opening the Messaging app, and then selecting the conversation containing the contact that you wish to block.

Unfortunately, you cannot block Apple IDs, so this is likely the reason why you are still getting messages. Many users have Read Receipts turned on, so if you are no longer seeing the READ AT… under your sent messages, it is possible you may have been blocked, or that the person has turned Read Receipts off.

If you want to disconnect with someone, or are annoyed by an overabundance of messages from one of your contacts, you can block them so they do not bother you anymore. In other words, you cannot block users from calling you without blocking them from messaging you as well. While there is no definitive way to stop spam landing on your messages, you can block any unfamiliar contacts in order to weed out repeated offenders.

Does blocking someone on iPhone block them on Mac?

When someone gets blocked on one Apple device, they also got blocked on all other Apple devices connected to the same Apple ID. You can still phone, message, or email a blocked contact without unblocking them. The person you have blocked won’t be informed to the person that you’ve done so.
