How To Enable Hey Siri
Access Settings. Toggle Siri & Search on. Turn it off, wait for “Hey Siri,” and then restart it. Tap Continue when the Set Up “Hey Siri” screen displays. Each command you see on your computer should be spoken. Click Done. Make your request after pressing the Home button on your iPhone, if it has one.
The first thing to check is if the Apple voice assistant is turned on, and if Hey Siri is enabled. Once you have enabled Hey Siri, you will be able to call up Apples voice assistant without having to tap your iPhones Side or Home buttons. With iOS 10 and later, you can use just voice commands to have Apples voice assistant send you messages through WhatsApp, order an Uber, or send you tweets to friends. Make sure you and Siri are on the same page by going into Settings > Siri and Search, and choosing the language and dialect you are comfortable with.
From your home screen, choose your Settings app > Scroll down to and select Siri and search > Select Siri voice. Once the conversation with Siri begins, select the Siri icon to speak with Siri again. Tap on the toggle to the right to turn it green, which will allow you to hold down either your Side button or Home button to invoke Siri. Now, go into a quieter area, enable Listening to Hey Siri, and then go through Hey Siris on-screen instructions to configure Siri again.
If you prefer not to, you can set up Siri manually by following these steps. It should be enabled when you reboot the Mac, but if you cannot figure out why Siri is not responding, check the Dictain settings under Keyboard System Preferences. You can configure Siri when setting up your new iPhone or iPad, or anytime you want, under Settings. Whether part of the set-up process or afterward, once you enable Hey, Siri, you need to train it to recognize your voice.
There is no way to train Siri to recognize your voice on macOS 10.12 Sierra, so you will have to practice a bit to learn how to talk in a way that makes the Mac realize that you are talking to Siri. To use the Voice Command, you first have to train Siri to recognize your voice. You will be taken to a setup page to teach Siri how to hear your voice. Now that Siri is trained to listen to your voice, you can use voice commands to have Siri check the weather, make calls, send text messages, and play your favorite music.
You can also access Siri using the Button on the iPhone (instead of using your Voice). If you prefer to type your queries into Siri rather than speaking them, you will need to turn on Type into Siri under Accessibility preferences. By default, Siri uses the language that you selected during the setup process for the computer. When you first set-up your computer, you will be asked whether you would like to turn on Siri.
Triggering the Siri app on a smartphone or a Mac using just your voice is a slick way of getting all of the information that the Web has to offer, without having to pause and scrub your hands before finding out what you need to know. Among the most useful Siri tricks is the fact that you can open other pieces of software for you with Siri, like in the following example. Using Hey Siri is only one of a number of ways you can interact with the virtual assistant, you can also invoke it by clicking the Siri menubar entry, or using a keyboard shortcut, and another neat trick, if you prefer the keyboard approach, is to turn on and use Type To Siri on the Mac instead, turning Siri into a text-based virtual assistant in lieu of a voice-based assistant.
What is perhaps less known is that many newer Macs from Apple also support hands-free use of Hey Siri, meaning users no longer need to tap on a menu bar icon or hit a keyboard shortcut before they can begin talking with the digital assistant. Instead of saying Hey, one could also retain Hello keyword for hand-free Siri calls in the Mac via dictation. That means, Dictation is the customizable command, and the reason for different keywords is, by using hey command for Siri, maybe the nearby apple devices Siri would activate too. By default, you can invoke Siri on a Mac either by pressing the Shortcut key for Meaning command, or through clicking the Siri icon.

Much like Hey Siri for iPhones and iPads, or the Apple Watch, when Hey Siri is enabled on a Mac, you can interact with the virtual assistant entirely via voice commands, and without having to click or tap on anything to trigger it. Assuming that you are already using Hey Siri on an iPhone, iPad Pro, or Apple Watch, keeping Hey a trigger would make it easier to begin issuing a voice command no matter which device you are using, and continuing to speak with Your Mac should be intuitive, considering that you are speaking with your Mac. If you finish setting up Hey Siri in a noisy environment, with lots of background noise, such as from fans or air conditioning, this may result in errors where Hey Siri fails to recognize the trigger word. If you have an iPhone nearby, Siri will also appear on the iPhone.
Does Hey Siri waste battery?
Usually, when you are using it, but not if you have switched to another app and it is running in the background. When you say, “Hey Siri,” it signifies that Siri is waiting for you to ask her a question in the background. It will need more battery power to do that than having Siri activated and accessible when you long-press the home button.
Does Siri need to be set up?
Before using Siri’s features, you must first set up the digital assistant on your iPhone or iPad. Go to Siri & Search in the Settings app and set on Listen for “Hey Siri” to activate Siri. If you turn off Siri, you’ll have to teach it how to recognize your voice when you turn it back on.
