How To Name A Group Text

To name a group text on an iPhone, Open the “Messages” app and start a new group message. Type in the names of the people you want to include in the group text. Tap the “Details” button in the top right corner of the screen. Tap the “Group Name” field. Enter the name you want to give the group text. Tap “Done” to save the changes.

To rename the text of the group, touch the Info button, then select the new name and picture. Depending on how you want to use the group text, there are two ways you can add a name to a message.

If you want to give group texting a name, you will need to first launch group chat, meaning to message all group members, or else you will not see theA Enter group nameA at all. If you want to send a message to a group of people, the easiest way is to send the message to all of the participants. This might sound obvious to some, but to clarify, once you have started a group message, every time you send a message inside of this conversation, everyone in the group gets to read it.

To send text messages to a group, first, we are going to create the group that will be reached. From there, type in a group name that you would like for your contacts, then tap on the OK button.

To add people to a group, tap on the Add Contacts or the + Sign icon. If you accidentally added a contact incorrectly, tap the red minus sign next to the name to remove that contact from your contact group.

Tap on group messages again, then on the information icon (i) Find the member you would like to remove, and tap Leave, noting you must have at least three members. Open group messages and tap on info (i) icon Scroll down and tap on red Leave This Conversation icon. To access and modify your groups details, tap on the i button at the top right corner of the screen.

You can also search the Group Members by Contact Names to find out how many have opened Group Text message. You can also use a keyword or phrase to name the group something specific. Anyone included in your text messages will be able to see the name that you added to tag the group, so make sure you call it something everyone in the group is comfortable with.

To edit the name of the placeholder, double-click on it and enter the new name into the text box. Now, when you view your message list, you will see a name rather than a shorthand string of separate names. You can easily change the group chat name from the Messages app, and your new group name will show up on your thread.

Just as you would do if you wanted to create a group chat, you also have to open Messages apps, and then give your group a name.

While iMessage apps look simple, there are a few hidden features that a lot of users are not taking advantage of – specifically, giving a group chat a custom name.

The group-name feature works for iMessage users only, so if you are using another app on your device, you will have to manually edit your groups name. If either user is on an Android device, or is not signed in to Messages, group texts will use MMS messages rather than iMessage. If any members of a group text on iPhone are not using Apple devices, then the first message you send will be sent as an MMS, which incurs a data charge from your carrier.

If at least one participant is using another type of mobile device (such as an Android phone), then the groups messages will be sent as MMS (or SMS) messages. Group messages are effectively sent using a mobile networks SMS feature, since active users are using a mix of iPhones and Android devices.

If you have members who are not Apple Devices in this Group, you can still send the group message using the default name generated by the Messages app on the Apple device. The Named Group Chat options only become available when all members participating in a Group Chat are using Messages App, the default that is available on Apple Devices only. As you can see in the picture below, New group name is visible on the details screen, making this group chat easier to recognize on Mac.

When changing a name, you can choose a custom picture or snap a photo to use as an icon for that specific group chat. While this is definitely sufficient for most situations, if you have a particular group chat going on for a particular purpose, you can give a name to any given group chat thread within the Messages app. To assign a custom name to a group conversation, simply open up the chat thread in the Messages app, and tap on the i (about) or details buttons on the top-right, depending on your iOS version.

Find the group conversation that you want to give a name to, then tap on it once to open it. Select the conversation that you would like to add an Individual into, and tap it to open it. Open the conversation you wish to title, then tap on the number of individuals on your group, or on their icons.

The groups name will remain intact even if you delete the chat transcript of this message, although closing the messages window and leaving a group chat will result in losing the groups name for that conversation. Now, you might want to set a particular group name, such as family or teammates, to help differentiate conversations. Tap on “Group Name” and then type any name you would like to assign to the group ( family, sales team, football team, and so on).

Why can’t I create a group on my iPhone?

Since Apple does not allow you to establish Groups just on the iPhone, you must use iCloud in order to do so. If you’d like, you can also set up a third-party app. You may always go back to iCloud to change the Group’s name or to add or remove contacts from it.
