How To Tell If Macbook Is Charging When Off?
It is an easy task to tell whether your Macbook is charging or not (especially if it is new). You just have to look for the indicator light on your Macbook. If it is glowing orange then that means that your Macbook is charging, and this can be deduced even if your laptop is off as the light will still be present.
Modern USB-C-powered MacBooks lack charging indicators on their charging cables, as any USB-C cable works. A USB Type-C charger does not have an indicator light, which means that if your MacBook does not power up, you might not know whether your battery is to blame, or whether the cable is simply broken. If your chargers light does not come on, the cause of the MacBooks failure to power on or charge could be the defective plug. To solve the problem, make sure to plug the MacBooks charger into a wall socket that is not on the same circuit, or into an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
All MacBook chargers have removable plugs, so you can use the plug from another charger or the extension cord of the Apple power adapter to check whether the defective plug is to blame.
A MacBook that is having trouble charging its battery may power up when you connect it to your work charger. If you connect third-party charger to your MacBook, you may see a green or orange light, and the MacBooks battery is charging the battery just fine. The battery is damaged or is too old, and it is not providing enough juice to keep your MacBook running. If you are using the MacBook intensively, the battery may be wearing down more quickly.
If you cannot charge a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, or if your charger does not work, getting things going might become a race against the clock while the battery is depleting. If the MacBook Pro/Air does not power up, even after you have charged your MacBook for a long period of time, it means that you have got a major hardware issue. If you plug the Mac into the airlines power adapter, the Mac may fail to charge its battery, even when you shut down your Mac or put it into standby mode.

If your MacBook is running performance-intensive applications, like video editing software and video games, the MacBooks battery may not charge. Lithium-ion batteries, such as those found in MacBooks, do not like to sit idle for a long period of time without being charged. The reduction means that if you leave your MacBook connected to a charger at all times, you may find that when you decide to actually use the MacBook off of its battery, it does not last as long as it used to. It is entirely possible you could be decreasing your MacBooks batterys max charging capacity by keeping your battery connected to the charger all the time.
If the MacBook is not charging anymore, your battery may have been damaged beyond repair. Even if your MacBook does not power up, if it is not a battery issue, there should still be light. If you are resolving the problem of your broken MacBook, checking whether or not it can be charged is a way of ruling out battery issues.
For instance, you might receive an “uncharging battery” notice if you plug in the charger from your MacBook Air (45W) into your 15-inch MacBook Pro (which requires an 85W charger). The charging issue occurs when the Apples new MacBook Pro is turned off, with the battery below a full charge. The connection to the battery is different on new MacBooks that use USB-C charging ports.
Todays laptops are equipped with faster charging, and this is particularly true of newer MacBook Pro models (which ship with 60W+ chargers). Recently introduced MacBooks powered by M1 Pro and M1 Max chips allow fast charging, but they still take about two hours to get the battery to full capacity. Depending on the model of MacBook Pro/Air that you are using, its battery can take anywhere from about two hours to about three hours to charge completely.
According to the Apple site, if your battery is around 50% charged, then getting it up to 80 percent full charge should take around an hour, and then another two hours for full power when charging in the Trickle Mode. Also, if the battery is noticeably lower, you will need to plug your computer in for power. Your MacBook will learn this habit, and it will delay the charge to more than 80 percent of your battery until later in the morning, so the battery cells have a shorter amount of time to reach 100 percent. Plug the MacBook into a wall socket you are certain is working, and wait for at least 10 minutes before trying to use your MacBook again with the battery.
If your MacBook does not charge after you plug it in, spend a few seconds checking that your MacBooks charger and cables are OK. Also, make sure your charging brick is not too hot. As you might expect, the process for doing so is pretty simple, just plug in your charging cable from a power socket to the MacBook Air, just like you would to charge an iPhone.

If your cables are slack, that1one-wire signal is not going through to your MagSafe charger, so you wont get a green light on your charging connector, and your MacBook wont recharge your battery. Overnight charging does not harm a MacBook Air, but if you are typically using one with a plugged-in power cable, the MacBooks battery might not have the capacity to last as long as it is supposed to for each charge. This could be a helpful way to prevent damage to the battery if you routinely leave the MacBook connected to the power supply for extended periods of time. MacBook chargers, including the MacBook Airs USB-C power adapter, can produce significant amounts of heat during charging.

You can charge the laptop’s battery directly by plugging a USB-C-to-USB-C cable into one of the USB-C ports and utilizing the USB-C-to-MagSafe power converter that is included. In our experience, even when the laptop was turned off, doing so posed no charging issues.
