To enable FaceTime live photos, you need to make sure that the enabled live photos feature is turned on in your device settings. Once enabled, you will be able to take live photos of the other person while having a video call with them. To make sure that both people have enabled the feature, it is best to perform a quick device restart after enabling it. This will ensure that everyone has the option available and nobody will be left out. In order for this feature to work, both people need to have enabled it before making a Facetime call.
To turn on Facetime Photos, first make sure your iOS device is up to date. On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch go to the “Settings” tab and select “Facetime”. Select your tile and you will be presented with a new screen with a reveal shutter button which will allow you to take a photo. On iOS devices, when you make a video call, captured live photos can be taken during your call. To enable this feature, click on Preferences in the menu bar and select Video Calls.

Now check the box next to “Enable Facetime Live Photos”. This will allow you to take a photo during Facetime calls.
