If you already have a unique Apple serial number for an Apple product that you want to own, head over to AppleSN.info and enter that into the present field, then pull up Apples full 8th-generation iPad specifications. The 8th-generation iPad features the 10.2-inch LED Retina Display with IPS Technology, 500-nit brightness, and 2,160×1,620 resolution, along with Apple Pencil support for the first generation. The 8th-generation iPad uses the same design as the 7th-generation iPad, featuring a 10.2-inch 1620 by 2160-pixel display at a 264-pixel PPI, Touch ID support, and Smart Connector compatibility.

The 8th-generation iPad is Apples mid-range tablet, featuring a mainstream 10.2-inch screen, a dimension that Apple switched to years ago. The latest iteration of Apples original iPad, the Apples has a 10.2-inch screen, and comes in either 64GB or 128GB storage.

Apple has released a new 10.2-inch iPad model, which has some updates in the camera, display, performance, and storage capacities. Heres how the 9.2-inch 9th-generation iPad, aka the iPad, stacks up against its predecessor, the 8th-generation iPad. However, in October of 2022, the standard iPad 10.2-inch actually received a redesign, which you can read about in detail how that compared with the 9th-generation model in our standalone feature.

It is still a welcome bump, and ensures the entry-level iPads provide Apples high-performing, cost-effective tablets for working from home, studying, or just relaxing in after-hours. While display dimensions and resolution are identical between iPad 10.2 (9th-gen) and its predecessor, there are a couple differences when it comes to the tech. Despite offering similar dimensions of 250.6 x 174.1 x 7.5mm, the iPad (9th gen) is lighter than either the iPad (8th gen) — or a Wi-Fi-only model.

The 8th-gen iPad weighed just 1.08 pounds (490 grams) for the Wi-Fi model, and 1.09 pounds (495 grams) for the Wi-Fi+cellular model. The 2021 iPad, which is Wi-Fi-only, weighs 1.07 pounds, which is a bit lighter than the 1.08 pounds the iPad had in 2020.

The 8th-generation iPad includes a 32.4-watt-hour, rechargeable lithium-polymer battery, which Apple says will provide you with up to 10 hours of surfing the Web or watching videos over Wi-Fi, and up to 9 hours of surfing over cellular networks with the Wi-Fi+cellular model. As is the case with so many iPad devices, it is easier to tell apart the Wi-Fi-only and the cellular-capable models of the 8th-generation iPad if the models are placed side-by-side, as the cellular models feature a plastic section on the upper back part of the aluminum body. All of the iPad 8 models share the same screen, which is a glossy 10.2 IPS LED-backlit 2,160×1,620 display (264 pixels per inch) that has oleophobic (oil-repellent) coating.

In fact, the two models are identical in terms of dimensions and weight, with 10.2 displays on each, and the Home button is present to keep things secure. Note the lower screen-to-body ratios on the entry-level iPad, as well as on the 7.9-inch iPad Mini, which keeps its Touch ID home button.

In these days of edge-to-edge glass displays, this prominent edge running along the edges of the iPads screen feels outdated when compared with the smoother, larger displays of the other models. The entry-level iPad is fractionally larger than the new iPad Air, but the iPads screen is flanked by that oversized border, and that border remains 10.2 inches wide. The iPads screen, and that remains 10.2 inches wide, whereas the new iPad Airs edge-to-edge glass allows the new iPad Air to edging out the larger display, which is 10.9 inches wide. The iPads screen is still really good — it is sharp and bright (up to 500nits), has a nice color balance, and would be perfect for browsing the Web, watching videos, or writing – with the addition of Apples Smart Keyboard Case, which costs PS159/$159.

Oddly, the initial price for the 7.9-inch iPad Mini (PS399 including VAT, or $399) is a further PS70/$ 70 higher, though its basic configuration does indeed include 64GB storage. The ninth-generation model comes in 64GB and 256GB variants, whereas its predecessor came in 32GB and 128GB models. The 2021 iPad comes with 64GB and 256GB variants of the storage, which is higher down the line compared to 32GB and 128GB options on the earlier model.

The iPad 8th-generation models come with iPadOS 14 and are also compatible with Apple Pay, but only for apps, and not for use at retail stores. The iPad 8th Gen models are powered by a six-core, 2.49GHz Apple A12 Bionic CPU with Neural Engine.

All iPad 8 models share the same cameras: an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera that can take still photos, live photos, and 1080p 30fps video, and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera that can take still photos and 720p video. Its predecessor had a FaceTime HD camera at 1.2 megapixels, so that is quite the big difference between the models, and the newer models are far better at making video calls. The 7th-generation previous release included support for the Apple Pencil, and Apple continues to offer that same support for Apple Pencil in the 8th-generation iPad.

In addition to the Apple Pencil support, Apple is also going to be offering the Smart Keyboard Case, which is a full-size enclosure that works with iPads, giving users an external keyboard to type better.

The iPad remains in a league of its own among tablet computers: Even as late as 2020, Android has been mostly unable to saturated the tablet market the same way that Apple has with iPads. During the September 2020 Apple event, Apple announced it had sold over 500 million iPads in its 10 year tablet history. Alongside a new iPad Air, which appears to borrow heavily from the design of the current iPad Pro, Apple announced a new 8.2-inch, 8th-generation iPad during the companys “Time Flies” event on Sept. 15, 2020.
