The iPhone 6 Plus was released in 2014 with iOS 8 installed. As of September 2019, the latest iOS version that can be installed is iOS 13.2.2. The iPhone 6 Plus is considered a legacy device because the hardware of the iPhone 6 Plus is not powerful enough to support the latest iOS versions.

Apples iOS 13.7 update is a minor, landmark version that brings with it a very small list of changes for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Heres a rundown on iOS 13s OS changes that impact users who own the iPhone 6. We are going to begin with a few brief impressions on how Apples iOS 13.7 update is performing with an iPhone 6.

The new iOS 13 is a big update that includes several long-awaited new features. It is a major release, including new features such as dark mode, QuickPath typing, improvements to Siri, sign-in with Apple ID, Memoji stickers, and much more. Apples mobile operating system brings a number of worthy enhancements, but you need to upgrade your device to iOS 13 before you can take advantage of them.

If you are unwilling to directly download everything on an iPhone or iPod Touch, you can still upgrade the device to Apples mobile OS. You can update your iPhone or iPod Touch using Apples iCloud, or you can do so by connecting the device to your Mac or PC through iTunes. Connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to your Mac or PC, and check that it is updated.

Optionally, users can also upgrade to iOS 13 using iTunes and a Mac or Windows PC. If your iPhone does not upgrade to iOS 13, this may be because your device is incompatible. IPhone 6 users will not be able to upgrade their operating system to the latest version, iOS 14. If your iPhone is unable to upgrade to iOS 14, this may indicate your phone is not compatible, or you are running out of space.

If you are still using an iPhone 6, rest assured your device will still function, but your days of updating iOS are largely behind you. This just means the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are now considered too old to receive recent iOS updates. The iPhones The iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, and first-generation iPhone SE, which were all shipped with iOS 9, will be among the oldest devices that get the iOS 15 update.

The last models to continue receiving iOS updates will be iPhone 6S models or higher. If the rumors are correct, it is likely the iPhone 6S and early iPhone SE will not be seeing new updates for another year. In fact, any iPhone model older than 6 is already obsolete from the standpoint of software updates.

While Apple is noted for supporting older devices with new software updates, some older iPhones eligible for iOS 12 have failed to get Apples mobile OS. Apple introduced a change in iOS 13 that restricts iPhones to installing iOS versions signed by Apple only. Unfortunately, iPhone 6 cannot install iOS 13 and any later versions of iOS, but this does not mean that Apple has abandoned the product.

Because the iPhone 6 is in Extended Support, you cannot expect Apple to keep rolling out updates. The iPhone 6 Plus, on the other hand, is not so fortunate, since the iPhone 6 Plus has until later this year for Apple to stop giving it updates. The iPhone 6s is the oldest iPhone that has received an update (the iPhone 6 is stuck with the latest iOS 12 release).

The iPhone 5s was five years old when it received the latest OS update, iOS 12, but was ineligible for iOS 13. The only alternative was to get a newer model of iPhone which supported the latest version of iOS 14. Generally, if the iPhone is capable of running the latest version of iOS 13, then installing the latest iOS 13 on your iPhone is the best choice.

There are others out there using even older iPhones that are still running iOS 15, and I wanted to see how using it on a recent, top-of-the-line iPhone compared with using it on an iPhone from 2015 — in particular, the iPhone 6S. Having used iOS 13 recently on both the 6S and the 2016s iPhone SE, I can say both devices still feel great to use: If you are happy with the way iOS 13 runs right now, you will be happy with iOS 13. The iPhone 6S is the first iPhone to be capable of running iOS 15, and using the iPhone 6S I just reinstalled, it is still got life left in it.

Unfortunately, getting one means if you are using the iPhone 6 or earlier, you are stuck with iOS 12. The iPhone 6 Plus is not getting any more software support, nor is it available new or refurbished by Apple, so you should probably think about upgrading if you are still using it. The iPhone 6 Plus, however, no longer will receive software support, making the iPhone 6 Plus no longer available to buy new or refurbished from Apples official retailers.

Even with the release of iOS 13 in 2019, iPhone 6s have not stopped receiving updates. Before it, iOS 13.5.1 was released on May 21 — an important update that added support for COVID-19-tracking apps, as well as a simple way to unlock the iPhone if you are wearing a mask. Since September 2019, when iOS 12 was moved to long-term support, iPhones have received regular security updates. When Apple unveiled iOS 13 operating system in August 2019, this was not good news for those who had older models of the iPhone.
