iPhone Daylight Savings 2023

In 2023, iPhone and iPad devices running iOS and iPadOS will automatically adjust their clock for daylight savings. This will happen on the second Sunday of March, when the time will move forward by one hour, and on the first Sunday of November, when the time will move back by one hour. This feature will help ensure that the time on the device is always accurate and that users don’t have to change the clock manually.

WASHINGTON (WJW) – The US Senate on Tuesday unanimously passed a bill making DST permanent, meaning there will be no longer be a need to move the clocks back one hour during fall time and forward during spring. With Americans about to turn clocks back this weekend, a bipartisan group of lawmakers is calling for making daylight saving time permanent across the nation, meaning no more shifting clocks and a later sunset. WASHINGTON, March 15 (Reuters) – The US Senate passed legislation Tuesday making daylight saving time permanent starting in 2023, ending a two-year time shift pushed by advocates who argue that lighter evenings and greater economic activity makes DST worth it. Nineteen states have already adopted it.

–About 30 states have introduced legislation to stop changing the clocks twice per year since 2015, some proposing doing so only if nearby states did likewise. At least 30 states have introduced legislation to end the practice of resetting clocks every year, and Pallone cited one study suggesting 71 percent of Americans are in favor of ending time changes every year. A recent poll by Monmouth University found a majority of Americans, around 61 percent, would eliminate the biannual time changes, with around one-third wanting to keep the practice. The legislation would make sure that Americans no longer need to change clocks twice a year.

If the “Sunshine Protection Act” is passed by the House of Representatives, with a presidential signature from Joe Biden, Americans would move backwards this November, forwards in March 2023, and never have to shift clocks again. That means that we would be falling back for a final time on Nov. 20, and then springing forward once and for all in March 2024. After that March spring, there will be no further time changes for the majority of the nation. Daylight Saving Time would not go into full effect until 2023, and clocks will not fall back after the spring forward shift to DST next March.

Public opinion about DST changed in subsequent decades, with some areas in the United States choosing to disregard daylight saving until the Uniform Time Act was passed in 1966, setting out specific days and policies as to when changes were supposed to occur, and states were allowed to opt out of the schedule. A bill passed in the U.S. Senate on Tuesday afternoon would make DST permanent starting in 2023, eliminating annual changes to the clock, moving it forward one hour in spring and back one hour in the fall. The United States Senate last week unanimously passed the “Sunshine Protection Act,” a legislative package created by Florida Republican Marco Rubio that makes DST the nations new, permanent standard time.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., a leading supporter of the bipartisan legislation, said Sen. Marco Rubio expects that instituting year-round DST will decrease crime by providing more hours of sunlight, decrease childhood obesity by encouraging children to play later into the day, and make a dent in seasonal depression rates. Supporters of the legislation, including Sen. Marco Rubio, co-sponsor, said giving children an extra hour of sunshine after school will make it safer to return home, allow for more time spent outside and provide other health benefits. Sen. Marco Rubio, a co-sponsor of the legislation, said supporters agreed the implementation will not occur until November 2023, following input from airlines and broadcasters.

Massachusetts residents still would have to shift clocks at least twice, according to the text of the legislation. Passage of the bill means that New Yorkers will move clocks forward in March 2024, according to Reuters, and will never need to worry about moving them back. There is a growing movement across America to end the practice of turning the clocks back and forward each fall and spring. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi supports ending the clocks change every two years, but has yet to decide if she supports daylight saving or standard time as a permanent option.

The biannual change of time creates a day with a 23-hour shift in the morning in spring, and a 25-hour shift each fall when the clocks are set back. Two states – Hawaii and much of Arizona – already observe standard, perpetual time (the period from November to March), meaning that they do not switch clocks at all. Hawaii and Arizona (except for the Navajo Nation) are the only two states in America not to observe the change of the time. With the clocks now set to move forward in Standard Time, Arizona moves from the Pacific time zone to the Mountain Time zone, and Hawaii moves from being six hours behind the East Coast time clock to being five hours behind.

Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday at 2 a.m. Clocks will fall back an hour, giving us all an extra hour to sleep – or get things done, but also meaning less daylight hours before March, when daylight saving begins all over again. On Sunday, March 13, at 2 a.m. local time, clocks on every smartphone in the U.S. will adjust — or fail to adjust — for DST, depending on what time is observed in your area, without you having to touch the clock. Go to Settings > General management > Date and time, and make sure “Automatic date and time” is turned on. If passed, the Protection of the Sunshine Act will bring the sunset on November 5, 2023.

If passed by the House, then signed by President Biden, we would basically be moving forward by a single time zone (+1 hour) in Standard Time. Two other bills, The DST Act and another one allowing states to opt to implement DST year-round, were introduced in the House in November of 2021, but never made it out of the Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce. Moving to standard time has proven popular in the business community in the United States, since having more daylight when employees end the workday is thought to make them more likely to do some shopping while they are driving home.

Will my phone change daylight savings time on its own?

If the phone’s software is current, the majority of smartphone clocks will adjust themselves automatically. When daylight saving time ends, however, you might need to manually update your clock if you modified any of the default settings after going into the settings.

Sure, if your device’s “date and time” settings are set to “set automatically,” the time will have triggered automatically. There shouldn’t be a problem with iPhone users’ alerts ringing off an hour later. If your schedule is configured to enhance efficiency, it will sound at 8 a.m. if it is set for 8 a.m.
