You can modify assistant settings for the HomePod in the Home app, and Apple Watch in the Watch app. If you would rather, you can disable specific types of Siri suggestions using the Settings app. If Siri was not turned on when the phone was being configured, you can activate Siri by opening Settings, pressing Siri and search, then turning it on.

On both iPhones and iPads, Apples personal digital assistant, Siri, no longer takes over your entire screen when summoned; instead, a small, sphere-like icon appears on the bottom of your screen, allowing you to still see what you are working on before initiating Siri. Now, using the devices speech recognition, Siri requests are processed entirely by the iPhones default, helping improve performance dramatically, according to Apple. Apples personal digital assistant, Siri, also now announces incoming calls via AirPods or compatible Beats headphones, and supports calling out emergency contacts should a traveling iPhone user require help and cannot place a call.
Customers buying cars equipped with Apple CarPlay are also taking advantage; the Siri personal digital assistant feature integrates with a cars audio systems capabilities, and better connects the users iPhone with the car, simplifying directions, making calls, listening to books, sending and receiving messages, and listening to music. By using machine learning and AI capabilities, the utility of the virtual assistant is enhanced without the need for any extra interaction from the user. Users only have to lift up their wrists and begin speaking–they do not need to say, Hey, Apples personal digital assistant, Siri, to start issuing commands and questions to the virtual assistant. As we mentioned, the Assistant is an integrated, voice-controlled personal assistant that is accessible for Apple users.
You can tell The Assistant to perform a task simply by saying, Hey Siri on your iPhone 4S, AirPods, connected Bluetooth headphones, Apple Watch, HomePod, or HomePod mini. The Assistant was first introduced in the iPhone 4S, but Siri is also available in iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch, AirPods, HomePod, and the Mac (macOS Sierra and higher) — see our guide on Siri in macOS. The Assistant is designed to give you a smoother experience when you are interacting with your iPhone 4S, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch, HomePod or the Mac, where you talk to it, and it speaks back to you, in order to locate or perform what you need. The assistant has access to all of the other built-in apps on your Apple devices — Mail, Contacts, Messages, Maps, Safari, and so on — and it will invoke these apps to bring up data or look in their databases any time it needs to.
While it is still less capable than alternatives such as Amazons Alexa and Googles Assistant, Siri is still regarded by many as helpful for controlling the phone and getting quick answers to questions. That said, Siri is also awesome because it is able to do things most third-party apps cannot do anyway. It is difficult to argue there is a better iPhone virtual assistant once you get Siri, since Apple is in the position of being able to build apps fully integrated into iOS.
To this degree, we already have tons of apps out there that are personal assistants for iPhone/iOS devices. I am pretty excited about the personal assistant apps, and about the market as a whole, because it is where cutting-edge AI is being turned into something that is handy to use in everyday life.
Their mobile-based virtual assistant is focused on mobile devices — specifically the iPhone and other smart phones, has a stunningly productive interface and user experience, and is incredibly useful — this is something that I will actually be using everyday. Their mobile virtual assistant cannot perform generic question answers, such as those from Wolfram Alpha or True Knowledge, though one secretive start-up said it could in certain cases give answers to questions that it knows, a capability which may improve in the future. By combining knowledge about your local situation and personal profiles, their mobile virtual assistant is capable of helping you accomplish tasks — such as finding something interesting to do on a Sunday afternoon — in ways uniquely tailored to your specific interests and personality.
For instance, iPhones running iOS 11 or higher can enter questions or commands into Siri instead of speaking. Apple lets Siri speak and control iPads, iPhones, Macs, HomePods, and manage services such as Apple Music and Maps. Things like opening an app, setting alarms, calling your mom, or finding the score of your favorite team can be done from the Apple Watch, however, and the Assistant even offers translation to devices and Announce Messages support.

While their mobile-based virtual assistant does not compete with Google in the primary markets of Google (search and advertising), it is easy to envision that the task completion, and resulting business transactions that this engenders, becomes an enormous opportunity — something that I expect Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and others will want to compete with eventually.
