Is Macbook Pro 2016 Worth It
A potent computer, the MacBook Pro 16-inch (2021), reverses many of Apple’s design choices from previous years. It’s the greatest MacBook to date, if you can pay the price of admission. The same Intel Skylake architecture and physical factor that MacBook Pros used in 2016 are still the foundation for them.

Even if we accept my best battery results as gospel, however, it is worth noting that earlier-generation MacBook Pros last much longer when charged. Taking all that into account, I would have been happier with the battery life in the 13-inch models, too, had Apple been able to achieve the same with a lighter design, as it did with the HP, or had Apple adopted a somewhat heavier construction in the name of better endurance. While Microsofts updated Surface Book has, of course, managed to get as much as 16 hours out of its heavy, 3.68-pound design, the same cannot be said for the 13-inch HP Spectre x360: It ran for 10 hours on our video testing, thanks to its Core i7 CPU and a 2.85-pound build, which is lighter than any of Apples MacBook Pros.
While Microsofts updated Surface Book admittedly achieves up to 16 hours with a heftier, 3.68-pound design, the same can not be said of the 13-inch HP Spectre x360 — it lasted 10 hours in our video test with a Core i7 processor and a 2.85-pound design that weighs less than either of Apples MacBook Pros. But Intels 10th-generation Core i5 — which is the same as that used in the MacBook Air — has new multimedia engines within its graphics cores, built on the 10nm process, rather than the 14nm Skylake, which is far older. For Touch Bar MacBook Pros, Apple went with a sixth-, rather than seventh-generation (Kaby Lake) Intel Core CPU. The MacBook Pros of 2016 were launched with 13-inch and 15-inch screens, featuring Intels Skylake sixth-generation CPUs, a new, thinner design, and Touch Bar.

Under the hood, you will find Intels latest six-core Core i7 processor, 16GB of LPDDR3 2133MHz onboard memory, as well as beefier discrete Radeon Pro graphics processors, which are as much as 2.3 times the power found in the previous generation, the MacBook Pro 15.4 (mid-2015). Under the hood you will find the latest sixth-generation quad-core Core i7 Intel processors, 16GB of 2133MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory, as well as more powerful Radeon Pro discrete graphics processors that are up to 2.3 times as those found in the previous generation, the the 15.4 MacBook Pro (Mid- 2015 ). The MacBook Air continues in its least-expensive, refreshed configuration from 2015, but you will have to accept a new body design if you want a better-looking screen and faster CPU. If you do not want to go to a Windows-based one, though, the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro from last year are still available at their 2015 prices; you just need to scroll down a bit more on Apples website to find them. This was also the year that Apple discontinued its entry-level, 13-inch, 2nd-generation MacBook Pro model (mid-2012), which had an optical drive, FireWire port, Ethernet, and a hard disk drive. Overall, the entry-level 13-inch MacBook was a satisfactory, and still pretty sexy, system that had numerous improvements, but not any hallmark innovations. The 12-inch MacBook will keep getting updates, eventually becoming Apples basic ultraportable, although, at $1,299, the 12-inch MacBook does qualify as a premium ultraportable in our eyes. It would make an excellent laptop if it were priced in line with the $1,300 starting price of older MacBook Pros, although the 12-inch MacBook may have to go a little lower downmarket to make room for it.

Apples MacBook Pro (16-inch) is still a great choice if you want an enormous 16-inch screen; if you need to run Windows apps on a Mac, and want the faster Intel CPUs you get in the MacBook; or if you want a laptop you can use with up to four 4K external monitors (the MacBook M1 only works with one external monitor). The rest of the laptop is built just like most Apple MacBook Pro models, with a very sturdy aluminum body and a 13.3-inch 2560×1600 screen with a resolution that hits 500 nits. The 15-inch model, in particular, tips the scales at less than four pounds, making it roughly the same weight as a MacBook Pro, and it can be configured with a 4K display, quad-core Core i7 processor, a 2GB Nvidia 960M GPU, up to 32GB RAM, and a 1TB SSD. If you can grab one of the last models from 2017 for a good price, it is well worth considering, since it will support MacOS 13 Ventura.
As long as you stick with the older MacBook models listed above, you should be able to find a MacBook that works with macOS 13 Ventura within your price range. If you can wait for the Apple-processed 16-inch version of the MacBook Pro, you should; it is almost certain to run better and have improved battery life, and will probably launch some time in 2021. There is little doubt it is the best computer to give current MacBook Air owners an upgrade to, if they are not willing or interested in giving Windows or Chrome OS a try.
The next model of the MacBook Pro will have the most substantial redesign of the MacBook Pro lineup that we have seen since 2016, and the updated machine will also fix complaints users have had about the MacBook Pro for years, returning older features including MagSafe, multiple ports, and physical function keys. The new MacBook Pro models will also ditch the Touch Bar, which Apple debuted in 2016, with Apple opting instead to use physical function keys. On May 21, 2019, Apple Inc. announced updated models of its Touch Bar, featuring new CPUs, with the high-end 15-inch model featuring the standard eight-core Core i9, as well as updated keyboards made of new materials throughout the MacBook Pro.
Like its new processor M1 predecessor, the M1 edition of the Air includes a significantly upgraded keyboard, featuring a deeper, satisfying feeling, and increased reliability over MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models released from 2016 to 2019. Apples new M1 processor is far faster than the lower-power Intel CPUs found in earlier MacBook Airs, and its battery life is so good you will hardly ever have to recharge it throughout the day, unless you choose to. In 2020, Apple announced Apples move to move the Mac line away from Intel-based CPUs, introducing machines with its own chips.
