Keyboard Backlight Not Working Macbook Pro
This is termed as a minor issue, and can be fixed very easily. All you have to do is start by pressing and holding the shift button along with the left option and the left control key. Along with this, press and hold the power button too, and keep this going for the next seven seconds.
You can easily manually manage your MacBooks keyboard backlight via the system preferences, and you can adjust your lighting settings with the F5 and F6 keys. Sometimes, your keyboards backlight may become stuck or become unusable, and the backlight turns off and back on as you restart your MacBook. The easiest hack that you can do to solve a problem with the MacBook keyboard not having a backlight is to reset your machine.
If you believe a small error in your system is keeping your keyboard lights from working, then rebooting the Macbook might solve your issue. If you have enabled power saving mode in your Macbook, this could be why the keyboard lights are not working. Tip While trying to solve your backlighting issue, you may have discovered your keyboard is not responsive like it should be. Another issue could be that backlighting is causing the keyboard to become distracting for others in the room.
There is a possibility the ribbon that communicates with the keyboard could get damaged, and causing backlighting to go out. Sometimes, a Mac laptops backlit keyboard simply does not work, seemingly for no obvious reason…and even trying to manually control backlighting using the hotkeys suggests the function is either broken or turned off. It is possible the backlit keyboard function has disappeared from your keyboard preferences on the Macbook. Look around for keys near the top of the keyboard that could enable the backlight.
The first one is pressing FN+Spacebar to turn backlighting ON or OFF. If you want the backlighting turned ON completely, just keep pressing the down keys. Now, you have to manually manage your backlight levels for your keys with the F5 and F6 keys, which becomes the only way you can affect illumination. To enable automatic brightness control for your keyboard backlight, select the checkbox next to Adjust the brightness of your keyboard when the lights are dim. All you have to do is head to Macs System Preferences, then Keyboard, and then check the box Adjust keyboard brightness in low light. By default, your MacBook is set to auto-adjust the keyboard brightness whenever there is a change in the intensity of light. The Keyboard brightness option is a tool that allows you to adjust brightness automatically on MacBook.
Early models of Macs had keypad shortcuts that allowed brightness settings to be changed by just pressing the keys. You can also adjust your keys brightness from MacOS Control Center, as shown above. Another way of doing this is by pressing the Brightness key on the keyboard to make them brighter, and the Dimming Brightness key to make them darker.

Keep in mind, backlit keyboards do not auto-adjust anymore, so you can adjust the brightness from below if you see a negative effect on the battery. This might seem a little paradoxical, but turning off auto gives you complete manual control of the backlit keys, allowing you to set a brightness level that you want to be using the whole time, and that stays consistent whether external lighting conditions affect the sensors or not. By turning off auto-backlighting, it gives full control of backlighting, and you can quickly adjust or set a desired brightness you would like to use.
The backlights can be turned off automatically when you are not using your keyboard for 5 seconds. This means your MacBook automatically turns on and off the backlight. The easiest way to test whether keyboard backlighting is enabled is to try to turn backlighting up so it is brighter, which is usually done by pressing F6 on a MacBooks laptop. If you are having issues with the keyboards lighting, you may wish to turn off adjustment and manage the brightness manually.
Although these two options do help to save your battery, it may get pretty annoying while working in a dark room, etc. So, if you are facing keyboard lights do not work issue with your Macbook, you may want to turn off these options and manage brightness by yourself. Keyboard settings on Mac also includes an option to disable keyboard lights after a certain amount of idle time. In new models, the brightness buttons on keyboards are replaced, with related settings moved into Control Center.
Once it is expanded, there are two buttons that appear toward the middle, which allow the keyboards light to be changed. Press Shift-Control-Option on the left of the keyboard, and press the Power button (or the TouchID button, if you have a Mac with the Touch Bar) simultaneously. Go to the Apple Menu > System Preferences Choose Keyboard > Input Sources Choose the option that shows Input Menus on the menu bar Click on the Input Menu bar icon, then select Show keyboard display Make sure that you are working on the correct keyboard layout.

Go to the Apple menu > System Preferences Choose Accessibility > Keyboard Under Hardware, turn off the slow key setting. Your keyboard will feel very sluggish when you have the Slow Keys setting enabled, and this may cause you to feel like your keyboard is broken.
So, deselect the near checkbox for Automatically Illuminate your keyboard when it is dim. If you are using MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, you can adjust the brightness by tapping on the carrot on the left-hand side of Control Strip .
Backlighting implementations vary on keyboards, but Apple laptops generally feature one LED per key, meaning the brightness is consistent across the keyboard. Backlighting in the keyboard is a function controlled by the SMC. Since backlighting uses a very small amount of LED energy for illumination, it does not really impact battery life much when the brightness is set at a reasonable level or lower, which is why a lot of people prefer the keyboard backlighting on at all times, even when the lighting situations do not require it for utility.
Sometimes, just tweaking where MacBook is sitting is not enough, and I have had experiences with some especially stubborn Mac keyboards, where the backlight just did not respond well to outside lighting conditions. Keep in mind liquid contact and minor spills on the keyboard may impact lighting, whereas the rest of the MacBook remains fully functional, so if your Macbook has smooth contact, it may also be responsible. The covers also could impact the MacBooks light sensor, thus adversely impacting keyboard backlighting performance. If you are facing an early timeout with backlight, you will have to adjust settings in Windows Keyboard properties.
