Notify When Left Behind

Notify When Left Behind

The Notify feature on the Apple Watch running WatchOS 8 or later can be used to send alerts when you have left your Apple Watch behind. Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch. Tap on “Notifications” and turn on the “Notify on Leave” toggle. You can also customize the notification sound and haptic by tapping on “Notify on Leave” and then “Customize Alert.”

To use Notify, when you have left your Apple Watch upgraded to WatchOS 8 or later, your iPhone upgraded to iOS 15 or newer, or newer, iPad upgraded to IPAD 15 or newer, and your Mac running on MacOS Monterey or newer [you will receive notifications on the iPhone and the Apple Watch, but not the Mac]. With the Notify When Left Behind Alert, you will receive an alert when you drop off your supported Apple device, AirTag, or Find My Network accessory in an unknown location. With iOSs Notify When Left Behind feature, you can have your iPhone or iPad alert you when you drop off an Apple device or accessory anywhere, helping you to avoid the fumbles where possible.

Notify When Left Behind lets your iPhone or iPad notify you if you drop supported devices, such as your iPhone, AirTag, or supported third-party accessories, such as your Beats headphones, at unknown locations. For example, if you drop an iPad, a new Mac, items attached to the AirTag, the AirPods Pro, the AirPods Max, or another supported device, your iPhone will alert you with a time-sensitive “left behind” notification.

Follow this tutorial to receive notifications the moment you drop off one of your valuable Apple devices or accessories at a new location. To find out where you left your Apple device or accessory, just tap on the notification telling you that you left an item behind. When you get a notification about the device/item that you left behind, tap that notification, and then tap Continue to launch the Find Me function.

If you tap Continue to open the Find My app, you can tap Directions to get directed to the device location, or Tap Do Not Notify Me Here if the location is somewhere where you would not mind leaving the device. You can also manage locations within Find My to prevent Find My from alerting you every time you drop off devices or items at certain locations. When adding a custom location, Find My asks whether this should only apply to your current device, or all of your devices and items.

Adding it will stop the Find My app from notifying you every time you drop a device in your chosen location. When editing the settings for your device within the Find My app, you will see there is an option to add locations you do not wish to receive notifications. Under Find My App, you can add specific locations to the whitelist, once done, you will not get notifications anymore if their iPad is left in these specific locations.

Check Location Services is ON and Set To While in Settings > Privacy > Location Services for both Find My App, and if using the Apple Watch, for both Find Devices and Find Items apps. If you use multiple Apple devices, check the iCloud settings for each device to ensure you have Find My switched on. Once you update, be sure to make sure your iPhones are using the same Apple ID and that Find My is turned on.

There is no need for an app or additional installs, you can just turn on Separation Alerts for My iPhone to receive an alert on your Apple Watch if you drop your iPhone off.

While I cannot turn on the feature for the Apple Watch, I still get notifications on the Watch if I leave the iPhone 12 and my Air Tag items behind. It is unclear whether it is possible to turn off this feature on the fly, or whether the feature is automatically turned off while you are home or charging your Apple Watch.

While letting this go is awesome should you need to use it, I am wondering How can I turn off AirPod notifications, since it happens whenever I leave my AirPods at home and walk somewhere without it. This function shows you separation notifications on the Apple Watch, which lets you know when you are out of reach of my iPhone or Apples AirPods, so you can turn around and pick it up fast. This feature sends your iPhone (and your Apple Watch, if you have one) a notification when you reach a certain distance away from one of your other devices, such as your iPad.

You can set the address of your house here, so that the Apple Watch does not make any alarms when you leave the house without your iPhone. If, for instance, you do not want an iPhone to alert you whenever you drop off expensive headphones at home, you can set your address to be such a place. Or perhaps I would prefer to leave out my home address, since that way, whenever I walk out of my home, my AirPods are missing, I get the alert.

Notify when left behind

Usually, when you leave an iPad behind, it is deliberate; maybe you left the iPad home while you went out, and, in this case, you do not really want to have a notification telling you that you left it.

If you want to leave the device behind in the house, or at a trusted place, you can always add that as an exception. The desired location will now be added to an exception list, and you will no longer get notifications about leaving the device behind in said location.

Tap on Home or New location and choose the location you would like not to receive notifications if you leave this device behind. Once you follow the steps mentioned above and setup separation notifications, you will be notified every time you leave the device behind in an unfamiliar location.

You might be asked whether you would like location alerts to only go down for this one item, or all items appearing in your Find Me app. Notifications of left-behind alerts work with iPhone running iOS 15 or higher, iPad running IPados 15 or higher, Mac running Apple Silicon and macOS Monterey 12 or higher, and with Find My items. If you wear the Apple Watch and ever thought how handy it would be if it would notify you if you are going to leave an iPhone behind, you will be happy that the new feature coming with iOS 15 does exactly that.

Your all Apple devices need to be signed into with the same Apple ID, for instance, You can monitor and turn on the option to Notify When Left Behind for the Apple AirTag, Apple Watch, on the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and on the Mac apps.
