Plans Lineup Reboot Thinner Macbook Magnetic
The new MacBook Air will be a reboot of Apple’s Mac lineup, and is expected to be thinner than the current model. It will also feature a magnetic charger, which will make it more convenient to use. The new computer is planned to be released at the earliest in 2022.
On June 11, 2012, Apple Inc. introduced its third-generation MacBook Pro, which was sold as the MacBook Pro with Retina Display, in order to distinguish it from its predecessor, the third-generation MacBook Pro. On November 10, 2020, Apple Inc announced the 13-inch, dual-port MacBook Pro featuring the Apple-designed Apple M1 processor, launched along with an updated MacBook Air and a Mac Mini, becoming Apples first Macs to feature Apples new lineup of ARM-based Apple custom silicon processors. On May 21, 2019, Apple announced updated Touch Bar models with new processors, an eight-core Core i9 standard for a top-end 15-inch model, and updated keyboards made from new materials throughout the MacBook Pro. At the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) held by Apple on June 8, 2009, it was announced that the 15-inch model was to be updated and rebranded to MacBook Pro, leaving only the white MacBook polycarbonate as part of the MacBook lineup.
This years high-end MacBook Pros received a similar treatment, with both the 14-inch MacBook Pro and the 16-inch MacBook Pro now featuring new M1 Pro and M1 Max chip options. Apple has a plan in place to refresh the whole Mac line of Apples Apple silicon-based processors in the next couple years. In addition to a new MacBook Air, Apple is planning the biggest refresh Apple has done since the 2016 MacBook Pro, the first redesigned iMac in almost a decade, a new Intel-based Mac Pro, and a mid-size Mac Pro desktop running on its in-house chips. The new MacBook Air will incorporate Apples MagSafe charging technology, as well as the companys next-generation in-house M5 chip. Apple confirmed to me that, like the 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro baseline, the Airs base storage capacity, 256GB, is stored on one NAND chip rather than the two found in models preceding it, or in the newer M2 models that pack 512GB or more. Apple is still restricting the new Air to only one external display, so if you are looking to hook the laptop up to more than one display at once, you are going to have to upgrade to a 14-inch MacBook Pro (which supports up to four external displays) or figure out some sort of workaround.
