Trackpad Not Clicking Macbook Air
If your trackpad isn’t clicking, make sure that the trackpad is turned on in System Preferences. If it is, then try restarting your computer. If that doesn’t work, try resetting the NVRAM. If that doesn’t fix the problem, you may need to take your computer to an Apple Store or an authorized service provider.
To modify your Macbook Airs settings to prevent your Macbook Air from disabling trackpads when you plug in external devices to the system, you should head over to Tab System Preferences >> then click Reduced Mobility and choose Mouse & Trackpad. As long as you are running OS X 10.7 Mountain Lion or higher, you can change this setting by going to System Preferences > Accessibility > Pointer control, and deselecting the box next to Ignore built-in trackpads when mice or wireless trackpads are present.
System Preferences > Trackpad > Point and Click > Check the box next to Tap to click (which is unchecked by default). If your trackpad is capable of moving your cursor, but it does not click, follow these instructions to turn on Tap to click. If the trackpad on your Mac does not click, but everything else works fine, try changing the setting of Click to Firm.
After doing so, change any settings that may affect your trackpads functionality, continuing with the steps below. You can also configure the trackpad with whatever preferences you may have. You may also find under that same header an option to adjust your trackpads sensitivity. Whatever the case, changing settings sometimes makes the trackpad act up.
You might have changed your trackpads settings, or perhaps software that you installed might have changed settings. In other cases, your trackpad issues might have been caused by new software that you installed. Most of you might have changed your MacBooks trackpad settings according to your preferences, and that is why you might have an issue with your MacBook Pros trackpad not clicking.
When your trackpad is not working, first check whether the MacBook Pro needs a software update. If after all of those checks and operations, the trackpad on your MacBook Air is still not clicking, then that means that you will have to get your Macbook Air device repaired.

It could be that after cleaning it too much, or even using inappropriate products, or being too aggressive, your Macbook Air devices trackpad is not clicking properly anymore. Resetting NVRAM or PRAM in your Macbook Air device can solve trackpad issues where it stops clicking or does not function correctly. Either PRAM or NVRAM could be to blame for the issue with the trackpad, and they are both reloaded with the same method.
Customizing the MacBook to override those input methods may keep trackpad behaviors from creeping in. Resetting the SMC may occasionally resolve issues with keyboard and trackpad. You cannot use the MacBook without a trackpad, which is why any issues you have with your trackpad are more frustrating. Do not fret, unless this is a hardware problem, there are some simple ways you can troubleshoot this problem and put the MacBooks trackpad back in its proper place.
If you find that there is a hardware problem while you are uninstalling, or if you tried all the fixes above, but still cannot get your Macs trackpad working, then it is time to seek Apples assistance or a certified Apple service provider. If the steps below are not working, or if the issue is some kind of hardware problem, then you may have to bring the MacBook Pros into Apples Genius Bar or to a computer repair store. If none of the steps below works, it is possible that there is a hardware problem that is causing the trackpad to malfunction, and it may be time to take MacBooks into an Apple Store or another certified repair facility.
If your Macs trackpad stopped working due to a simple software malfunction, then restarting may be all you need to get it working again. If your problem persists on the MacBook Pro, try to revert the MacBook Airs trackpad back to the factory settings. When you notice the MacBook clicking does not seem to work, you should also look at the System Settings, because it has a few options in there that could have caused the issue. By resetting the trackpad, you are turning your MacBook Pro back to its original settings in the System Preferences.
To change those settings, head over to Apples little black box located on the upper left-hand side of your MacBook Airs screen, and click on System Preferences, then finally choose Trackpad.
While inside the system preferences, you may want to try turning off Force Click and Haptic Feedback. You can turn on the Tap to Click (or Tap to Tap in French) which you will find under System Preferences, and will let you select items and use your trackpad with one touch of the finger.
Force clicking allows you to just tap on your MacBooks trackpad to choose items, whereas touch to click requires pressing down hard on the trackpad in order to feel the click. Force click means that you must push trackpad hard to make it register the click. The reason why you are having problems clicking your trackpad could be because of the force-click feature.
This is a very frustrating issue, as easy as it sounds, your laptop is basically worthless if you cannot click or tap your trackpad, unless you are using an external mouse. Just plug in an external mouse to your Mac until you find and repair what is wrong with the trackpad. You should temporarily disable your Bluetooth, because MacBook can sometimes think that you are using an external mouse or trackpad because of the Bluetooth connection.

An automatic reset should restore PRAM/NVRAM, then test whether the trackpad works, then continue on if it does not. Click on Trackpad options, and then toggle off Disregard built-in trackpads when mouse keys are active. Resetting the trackpad settings back to the factory settings is a good idea for this scenario.
