Voice To Text Iphone Not Working
If voice to text on your iPhone is not working, you’ll need to make sure that your cellular network or wifi is ON because the speech to text feature requires a stable network to work perfectly. You should reset network settings or install the latest iOS version.
Voice-to-Text will only work on your iPhone if you have dictation enabled in iOS 16. If you are not able to use dictation to type text on your iPhone, you should check to see if your iPhones microphone is working. If the dictation function cannot understand your speech, you need to speak slightly louder and closer to your iPhones microphone. If the dictation function does not convert your speech into text on your iPhone, it is possible the iPhones microphone is not working correctly.
If you are trying to use Apple keyboards speech-to-text functionality for languages that are turned off or have not been added, it will not work. Sometimes, the microphone icon for the voicemail might not be present on your keyboard, or it might not be translating what you are saying to text. Usually, voice-to-text works quite well…but there were several times where we here at iGeeksBlog noticed dictation was not working on our iPhones.
You have been able to dictate text on an iPhone rather than typing it for a very long time, and over the years, it is occasionally improved. Using voice-to-text saves a ton of time, and the good news is you will find more apps supporting iPhones dictation mode. Your iPhones dictation function can help you stay on top of text messages, saving you tons of time. If dictation is not working for you yet on the iPhone, you should check out the alternative keyboard apps that support speech-to-text.
If you mostly want to dictate text rather than using the keyboard, you can enable dictation on iOS devices as well. To use your iPhones keyboards voice-typing features, you need to enable dictation under Settings. You should see an option called Enable Dictation once the iOS keyboard is added, and make sure that Dictation is unrestricted. To enable dictation on the iPhone, open the Settings app, navigate to General > Keyboard, and enable the toggle for Enable Dictation.
If Dictation is turned on, disable Dictation and turn it back on when you reboot the iPhone. Since iPhones are brand new from a restore, dictation functions should be working.
In that case, it may help if you revert the settings for your Siri and Dictation on iPhone. In that case, if the iPhones Internet connectivity is not working or responding, then it is time to reset your iPhones Network settings. Many times, just rebooting your iPhone is all it takes to solve dictation issues with the iPhone that are not working. If nothing seems to solve your issue with dictation not working, then you should reset the settings on your iPhone.
If dictation is not working on the iPhone, and your iPhone is not connected to the Internet, you might notice that the microphone has turned gray. If your device is not connected to the internet, your Dictations microphone icon turns grey. If you can no longer see the microphone button either, it is very possible that you may have unintentionally limited your Dictations settings.

Toggle the green slider to its Off position, and dictation by voice is turned off. While in the Dictations preferences screen, ensure that the proper mic is selected. Now, open up Apples Notes app, tap on the mic icon on the keyboard, and dictation should work like a charm. When you are done dictating, tap the tiny white keyboard icon at the bottom middle of your screen.

In almost all text input areas, except for search fields, words will begin to appear when you speak, but your keyboard remains on the screen, highlighted by a microphone button. For some users, being on the beta of iOS has caused them to encounter these bugs, where voice-to-text features are not working. Many users reported that the keyboard dictation does not work at the same time, they cannot listen in during calls in speaker mode, and speech memos do not register, and Siri is broken when listening. In an odd Apple keyboard behaviour, many users, particularly in iOS 16, found that changing dictation language to English (UK) fixed dictation not working issues for many users. Let us take a look at various ways of fixing the dictation not working on the iPhone and iPad, including on the latest iOS 16 release.
If microphone, or rather, the Dictaphone button, does not show up in the Apple keyboard, then this is due to the application restrictions that are imposed for Siri and Dictaphone functionality. Just like Siri, dictation relies on the iPhones microphone to identify your voice. By introducing an awesome auto-correction function and adding support for Emoji in iOS 16s dictation, Apple is trying to give you an entirely new dictation experience, making it much easier to dictate from a keyboard interface. As long as you own an iPhone with an A12 Bionic chip, or better yet (that is iPhone XS), you will be able to seamlessly speak as well as type or edit, making your whole dictation workflow much more fluid.
For instance, if you are using SwiftKey, check to see whether or not their text-to-speech feature is still working, or it is simply restricted to their own tools on the iPhone.
If neither of the solutions above works in your favour, and you only want to use voice-dictation, then reseting the phones settings is the only option. Once you have reset your iPhone, turn on dictation and test whether voice-to-text is working right now. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content and privacy restrictions > Allow apps > Tap to ensure that Siri and Dictation are enabled. Go to Settings > Siri & Search > Turn off Hey Siri Listening & Pressing the Home/Side Button to talk to Siri>.
If Dictating is enabled in the Keyboard settings, but you cannot see a mic icon when you go into your iOS 16 Keyboard, Dictating might have been disabled as part of the screen time limitation.
