Why Is Leave This Conversation Grayed Out

Why Is Leave This Conversation Grayed Out?

Leave this conversation is usually grayed out in the scenario where there are only three people in the group. So, you dont have the option to leave that chat because if you leave, there will only be two people left and then it won’t be  a group anymore.

You can tell whether this is a Message or a normal SMS group by looking at the bubble of text. If all group members are on iOS devices, iMessage is used for group chats, and the user can confirm this same thing by seeing if the text message bubbles are in blue. You can verify whether a group that you are a part of is an iMessage group or one from the Messages app simply by looking at the color of the chat bubbles, which will be blue for groups filled with Apple users, and green if one of them is not an Apple user. To quit a group in iMessage or the Messages app, open the Messages app on your iPhone/iPad and ensure that you can see all your conversation threads by going to the “All messages” section in the app.

Leaving a group conversation does not alert the other members of the group, just like if you deleted a chat thread in iMessage or the Messages app. The “Leave This Conversation” option can remove you instantly from iMessage groups within the Messages app.

The Leave this Conversation option may become greyed out when a group texts a person who is not using iMessage, or does not own an iPhone. In this case, the Leave this Conversation option might be greyed out, and a user cannot leave the group (the problem is reciprocal, Android users can also not leave a group in which at least one user is using an iOS device).

If leaving is impossible, then one or more users are probably not using Apple devices that have the Apple instant messaging service enabled. With SMS/MMS groups, you can leave only if there are at least three people present in the group, and they are all using Apple devices.

To leave a group chat, all the participants of the conversation stream must use an Apple device running the Messages app (which uses the iMessage Apple network). All participants of the thread need to be in iMessage, if some Android users are a part of the group, you cannot leave the thread.

When does the “Leave This Conversation Greyed Out” problem occur.

If you see an option, but it is greyed out and you cannot choose it, that means that the total number of participants of a group thread is just three. Left means one or more of the group members are not using iMessage. If you left the chat conversation with the options greyed out, this is almost definitely because one of the users in the group chat is not using iMessage, or is using iMessage but missed a sign-in, or turned off iMessage services.

A large group message that includes both iMessage and SMS users will cause the “Leave This Conversation” button to gray out, or to not appear at all, depending on when the SMS user joined the group chat. There might be users in the group conversation that are not using iMessage or an iPhone, and you might notice you cannot send or receive messages from them. When you muted the group, you are still able to send or receive messages, but your iPhone will not vibrate or produce sound when you get a new group message.

Quitting means that you are removed from the group and will no longer be exposed to conversations that are happening within the group (meaning, you will not be able to send, receive, and read messages). Exiting the group completely removes you from chat, and muting a group suppresses notifications from conversations. If you cannot leave a pesky group, then muting or silencing a group is your next best option.

The group preview should display the same badge telling you that the group is muted/silenced. Now, not only can you rename and silence a groups messages, you can leave a conversation altogether. A group that you have left will have a message that says You left a conversation on the bottom of the screen when it opens.

You can also remove a group conversation from within the Messages app, or create a group conversation with people who have interacted with this group conversation, which may allow you to continue to receive new messages. If some people in a group chat are using Android phones or other apps instead of Messages on iOS, you will be in a standard group message, and there is no way to drop off group texts via Messages. If your Android phone uses another texting app, such as Samsung phones Messages or Google Messages, then the process of leaving a group text might be different.

Group texts utilize the texting plans of your wireless provider, and because iPhones cannot tell other iPhones directly that they wish to leave the conversation, leaving is not an option. Some iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users are reluctant to leave group conversations because they might want to receive messages from a group in the future.

If there are just two others in the text chat, then you cannot leave, as shown above. This means if you are doing a group chat with exactly three people using Apple devices, Leave This Chat will be grayed out on the chats pop-up settings window. The Leave This Conversation option will be greyed out if there are more than three members (or less) to a group, or the group is a text/MMS group.

To fix this, you can go into Settings, then Messaging, and make sure that the Group Messaging option is on. If you are not listed under groups in Group Info, you can Block the caller from the Apple Messages app to prevent unwelcome messages coming into the Messages app. If you cannot get out of the group chat of iMessage, then hide Alerts from group, This will stop annoying alerts coming to iPhone.

Why is iMessage not letting me leave a Conversation?

As long as three other users are on the thread and everyone is using an iPhone or iPad, you can leave a group text message. If there isn’t a “leave” button, one or more of the individuals may not be using an Apple device with iMessage.

How do you leave a group text that won’t let you leave?

Unfortunately, unlike iPhones, Android phones do not allow you to leave a group SMS. Even while you can’t totally leave a group chat, you can still silence alerts from that conversation. You may still use the group text while all alerts are stopped.
