You may mute alerts for particular apps using the Deliver Quietly feature on iOS devices. You also don’t need to put your iPhone or iPad in Do Not Disturb mode. On your iPhone, tap the Notification Center icon, swipe left and select Manage. Tap Deliver Quietly. to switch it on or off.

If you send someone a text and it appears that it was never delivered, or you see the delivered notification, but the message never shows up in conversation, then it is possible that the person you are messaging has blocked you.
