Does Homepod Mini Work With Spotify

Does HomePod Mini Work With Spotify?

The HomePod Mini is exactly like or similar to every other regular AirPlay Speaker. So in light of this, it mostly has all the features that the latter has too. This means through the Mini HomePod you can access all the different streaming services including Spotify, Apple Music, and many more.

Now, more than a year after Apple made its announcement, Spotify has yet to add support for smart speakers in HomePod mini, and it is impossible to say whether Spotify is even working on this now. Some users described Spotifys actions as childish behaviour, and others threatened to move on to other platforms, including Apple Music, if Spotify does not add support for the smart speaker. Shortly after it was revealed, Spotify users began taking to the platforms forums to voice their concerns about missing Spotify, and demanded full Spotify support for its HomePod devices.

Spotify users are growing impatient with the music streaming giant for their lack of support for HomePod, pushing some customers to the brink of canceling their subscriptions altogether and switching to alternative platforms like Apple Music. Unsurprisingly, Spotify is taking its sweet time to roll out native support for the music streaming service on HomePod. Spotify is currently working to add support for Airplay 2, which would allow the HomePod to function like an Airplay speaker using Spotify Airplay, but the Airplay 2 support is not the full integration other apps have with the HomePod devices.

While you might not be able to integrate your Spotify account with Apples smart speakers directly at this time, you can still use the devices Airplay features to play music. AirPlay is not ideal, as the music stops playing if the device that is streaming to your HomePod leaves your network. While you cannot connect Spotify accounts to your HomePod natively, you can still make use of AirPlay.

With other Apple devices that are logged into the same iCloud account, you can use peer-to-peer AirPlay, even when you are not online. While users cannot link Spotify–or any music streaming service, for that matter–to an Apple smart speaker to directly stream music, they can still pair an Apple device with Spotifys app to play music through the devices AirPlay function. Unfortunately for users of Apples smart speakers, however, this is not true; Apple has not allowed HomePod to directly integrate with Spotify, as it has done with Apples eponymous music streaming service, Apples iTunes platform.

Just like Spotify, other third-party music streaming platforms — such as Amazon Music, Pandora, and Soundcloud — cannot play or stream music directly on Apples smart speakers. You cannot tell the HomePod to play a specific Spotify track, like you can with Apple Music. In fact, you can only control songs or playlists from Spotify on HomePod using AirPlay.

Your HomePod can also stream music from any services running on an Apple device, including Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Prime Music, YouTube Music, and others.

You can also use the Spotify desktop app on a Mac to play music through your HomePod, but the process is slightly different. Unfortunately, you cannot stereo pair the HomePod Mini and the HomePod, just the two speakers as one, though you can configure HomePod products to play the same tracks in mono by just saying, Hey Siri, play music everywhere, or, if you assigned the HomePod to your office and HomePod Mini to the bedroom, saying, Play music in the office and the bedroom. While Apples smart speakers cannot play Spotify music directly at this time, reports are coming in regarding a new software update which would enable the HomePods to play music directly from third-party music platforms such as Pandora and Spotify. Apple certainly wants its homePod smart speaker users to be using Apples proprietary Apple Music service, but leaving off the reference to Spotify–which remains the most popular music streaming service worldwide, despite Apples efforts–will make that a harder sell, particularly for people who are already invested in competing smart home speaker systems, such as Googles or Amazons.

Your HomePod is designed to work with an Apple Music subscription, and can play content from a few third-party services, as well as from any service on iOS devices or a Mac using AirPlay peer-to-peer. Using AirPlay, you can play audio from your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and even your Apple TV on a wireless device such as the HomePod.

Users are ready to put their frustrations to work: Many said they activated the three-month Apple Music trial, and would extend their subscriptions if Spotify did not pick up support for HomePod before the trial ended.
