How Accurate Is Find My Iphone

Your iPhone location on find my iPhone app may be accurate somehow. If it relies on the GPS on your iPhone then GPS will ensure the accuracy of your iPhone’s location. It is estimated that find my app may trace your location accurately for about 3 meters.

Using Find my iPhone is really accurate, with some caveats: Your device is online, and you have set a GPS location. When locating an iPhone, the function shows a green point on the map resembling your iPhones exact location. It works by using the devices GPS location services to monitor the whereabouts of your iPhone. When it shows a gray spot on a map, that means your device has gone offline, and some of its features are unavailable.

If you see a green circle with a white checkmark next to the name of your device, that means your device is online, and its location should be available. If you only see a grey spot, that means that for whatever reason, the Find My iPhone app cannot find the iPhone. Before relying on the green circles that The Find My iPhone app shows you to locate the device, be sure Location Services is enabled on the device. If Location Services is not enabled, the location of your device will not update in the Find My iPhone app, making it less accurate.

If you are not signed into iCloud, the service may experience bugs and list your phones location at a different place (such as your last iCloud login location). As iPhone Find My App or Find My App uses cell sites, WiFi hotspots, GPS, Bluetooth, and Internet connectivity for locating a device or to perform all the other functions, accuracy is similarly dependent, that is, if a device can access more of those, then it is more accurate. For example, when Wi-Fi is turned off and there is no way to get access to GPS signals, a Find My iPhone app may use nearby Cell towers for tracking the location, a technology which may provide approximate locations in circles in miles rather than meters. The Find My apps new ability to locate the device accurately depends on the availability of WiFi access points.

For example, if your device is located in an area with no WiFi or GPS signals available, but uses only the cell site to determine the location, the determined location will be less accurate than the location determined using WiFi hotspots, GPS, and cell sites. Apples location services use WiFi hotspots, Cell sites, Internet connectivity, Bluetooth, and the GPS Cell sites to find out an approximate location for your device. The more satellites an iPhone is connected to, the more precise the location results are found.

If your phone is placed in an area where it can get a strong signal from 4+ satellites, then the phones GPS should be accurate within about 20 feet. If the position of your device is within the brightest spot for the satellites GPS signals, then you should be able to locate the device in more or less eight meters. Once any given device detects its distance to at least 4 or more GPS satellites, then the device will find out its position.

This is important, as the GPS satellites communicate with your iPhone in a time-based system, so if your devices time is incorrect, it cannot properly calculate your location. Your phones position via GPS is not entirely accurate either.

Well, its location-based assistance may have trouble finding a device that you are looking for.

These Find-a-Phone apps use GPS, cell phone towers, and nearby Wi-Fi networks to determine the phones location, but in order to use these services, the user needs to turn on location services ahead of time.
