If you do, then it is highly likely you are running on a high amount of memory and you will need a RAM upgrade to your Mac.

What you can do about the RAM in your Mac depends on the model of your machine. Many Macs are similar, so you will want to look at the exact model that you own before starting to shop around for RAM. Due to the huge amount of Mac models out there, we cannot provide precise details about what RAM is right for each machine. Not every RAM type is going to be a good fit in every Mac machine, so making sure that you are buying the right part is essential.

While you can purchase used RAM for a MacBook Pro or other Mac, you probably will not be covered with a warranty like this. You will have to purchase an appropriate amount of RAM for your system. For instance, if you are looking to go up to 8GB RAM, purchase 4GB in 2 packs.

Check the model of your Mac to see if it is possible to add more memory before buying the new RAM. In the About This Mac window that we visited previously, you should see your new amount of RAM next to your storage. Turn my MacBook Pro on, then head over to About This Mac to confirm RAM.

The process to upgrade Mac memory (RAM) depends on the model of your Mac: you cannot upgrade the RAM in certain models, such as MacBook Air. If you are buying a new Mac, many models (like a MacBook Air) are upgradeable at purchase only: upgrading RAM in the house afterward is not an option. Many newer Mac models cannot get RAM upgrades, so you are stuck with whatever you chose at purchase of your new Mac. Unfortunately, not every MacBook or MacBook Pro will let you get RAM upgrades–it depends on your model and year of device.

If RAM is too expensive, or if your Mac does not allow an upgrade, try out an all-in-one productivity tool to boost your Mac and provide it with that extra jolt. Before spending money on new RAM for your older machine, be sure that the time is not right to replace your Mac instead.

Otherwise, you might spend all that effort upgrading the RAM, only to have a non-usable machine. Upgrading the RAM on a MacBook Pro, or any RAM, on your own is not without its risks. Unfortunately, you cannot really upgrade the memory on the MacBook Air models.
