Should I Wait For Macbook Pro 2023

While a lot of speculation has suggested Apple is going to launch updated versions of both the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros at some point this fall, a couple new reports out today say that is not true after all.

Just about everyone expected Apple to hold another event in November, but the new rumors indicate the M2 Pro, Max, Ultra, and Extreme chips-equipped Macs and MacBooks are not coming until 2023 at the earliest. According to the new report, updated Apple laptops featuring the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips could be launched during Apples October event, which is being speculated. These new devices reportedly launch with the new M2 Pro and M2 Max processors, but they will still be similar to the MacBook Pro 14 from Apple.

Mark Gurman said that the new MacBook Pro would continue to look like the current model, suggesting that Apple would not change the laptops design. Apple has always waited several years to unveil major new designs, so it makes plenty of sense for Apple to stay with the existing shell design for the MacBook Pros 2023 iteration.

Last year, Apple refreshed the MacBook Pro, giving it a new design, new 14-inch display options, as well as using M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets. More recently, Apple debuted the new iPad, the iPad Pro, as well as the improved Apple TV 4K. Earlier this month, Apple quietly launched new iPads, including the 10th-generation iPad, as well as the iPad Pro, which has the M2 SoC. The 10th-generation iPad Pro.

We were led to expect Apples new crop of Mac computers, including the Mac mini, updated MacBook Pro laptops, and the companys new Mac Pro silicon, but that does not appear to be when we are going to see it until sometime next year. Apple is also continuing testing on a first-ever Apple Silicon Mac Pro, expected some time in the beginning of next year. According to noted Apple analyst and Bloomberg reporter Marc Gurman, Apple is going to introduce new MacBook Pros, Mac minis, and Mac Pros next year, although an exact launch date remains uncertain.

Rumors also suggest a new Mac Mini powered by M2 is in the works, too, and that Apple is testing both the normal M2 chip that you would find in a current MacBook Pro 13, and a newer M2 Pro chip. Apple has recently introduced new MacBook Air and Pro models running their latest M2 chips, and the rumors are already pointing to even more upcoming Macs.

Learn Which MacBook to buy in late 2022

Rumor mills have been swirling around that Apple is going to introduce M2-powered Macs in November, but it looks like we will have to wait until next year. While it seemed that Apple was planning on releasing the new M2-powered MacBook Pros in 14-inch and 16-inch form factors at some point this fall, now it appears the companys internal plans had to be changed, something confirmed by several announcements.

In Mark Gurmans latest Power On Newsletter, the Apple-focused reporter said that Apple is ready with a number of new pieces of hardware, including the MacBook Air, 15-inch MacBook Air, M3 iMac, and a new Mac Pro, 9to5Mac reported Sunday. After the launch of iPhones and iPads, the attention turned to pending Apple upgrades for Macs, but although updates for MacBook Pros are expected soon, one report says the new Mac Pro is still being worked on, with an expected release date in 2023.

Those looking for a bit of extra horsepower, and who are prepared to commit to a desktop, may be well advised to wait for Apples announcement of a new Mac Pro, which is expected within the next few months. Assuming that Apple releases the M2 chips in the MacBook Pro, those looking to push the machine to its limits in video and image editing, software development, music production, and other intensive tasks may want to wait for the M2 Pro and M2 Max-powered MacBook Pros that are said to be coming. Apple is also planning new, higher-end MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips as soon as late 2022, although that release date could slip into early 2023.

Factors to ConsiderExplanation
New Features and ImprovementsThe 2021 MacBook Pro is rumored to have significant upgrades, including the M2 chip, a new design, improved display technology, and better battery life. If these features are important to you, it may be worth waiting for the release.
Current NeedIf you need a new MacBook Pro immediately and your current device is no longer meeting your needs, waiting for the 2021 release may not be practical.
BudgetThe 2021 MacBook Pro is expected to be more expensive than the current models, so if budget is a concern, it may be worth considering purchasing an older model or a different laptop brand that fits your budget.
AvailabilityIt is unclear when the 2021 MacBook Pro will be released, and it may not be available in all regions immediately. If you need a new laptop urgently, waiting for the 2021 release may not be the best option.
Should I wait for MacBook pro 2021?

Under the hood, the Air is expected to make use of the brand-new Apple M2 chip, which could be slightly less powerful than the Pros M1 Pro and M1 Max offerings. We are also guessing the M2-based CPUs will be using the same architecture as the standard M2 chips found in recent MacBook Airs. Taiwans Business Times has reported that Apple plans to use the 3-nanometer chip in updated models of the MacBook Pro in both 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, suggesting these machines would be the first with a 3-nanometer chip.

Apple analyst Min-Chi Kuo believes that the production will start for updated versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in Q4-2022, and that upgraded models might not feature the improved 3nanometer chips in-development. Apple is developing new versions of both the 14-inch MacBook Pro model and the 16-inch MacBook Pro model, but they appear to be rather small updates after the full re-design in 2021.

When new MacBooks eventually do arrive, they are likely to keep the same 2021-era design, but they will feature cutting-edge M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets, touting improvements to speed, graphics, and more. If the rumors are correct, and the new tablets pack M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, they should be both more powerful and better performing than their predecessors — let alone 2021 models. As far as the new ones go, Bloomberg journalist Marc Gurman says that the new laptops will not feature new designs or any significant new features to differentiate them from 2021s 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, but they will pack Apples next-generation Pro and Max chips, M2 Pro and M2 Max.

The M3 iMac was released in 2021 with an M1 chip, and the new Mac Pro is the only Apple hardware product yet to receive the Apple-branded silicon upgrade. The current iteration of Apples powerhouse desktop runs on Intel CPUs, and has not seen an upgrade since late 2019.

WWDC 2022 indicates that there is potentially a cycle of 18 months for chip updates in Apples silicon, potentially aligning with rumors suggesting we should see M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pros come out in spring 2023. Perhaps a press release in the coming weeks, with some machines sold via the Apple Store for select individuals…but late 2022 is approaching quickly, and it looks like Mac Pros are going to 2023. Well, the wait on the Air does not seem to be going on for long, considering renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via macrumors) has said mass production may start at the end of Q2 or the beginning of Q3 2022, with full availability sometime in August or September.

Is it worth waiting for the new MacBook Pro?

Although it is advised to purchase a new MacBook Pro right now because the costs are probably at their lowest point, a recent rumor may drive you to want to wait a little longer. The performance upgrade for the next 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro will be “worth the wait,” according LeaksApple Pro.

Is it worth buying MacBook Pro M1 in 2022?

If you are a devoted user of Apple goods, there is no excuse not to purchase the newest version. But if you want to make a smart investment, the M1 MacBook Air will perform admirably and last for a few more years before becoming obsolete. You’ll also make a few hundred dollars in savings.
