Why Does My Email Show Up When I Text

Why Does My Email Show Up When I Text

If your email is showing up when you text, it could mean that your phone number and email address are linked in the settings of your device. This can happen when you use an Apple ID or an email address as the contact method for iMessage, which is the default texting app on Apple devices. To resolve this, you can go to the Settings app on your device.

In the “To” box, type in the 10 digit telephone number that you would like to send the message to, then append a matching email domain at the end (listed above). When sending a Text e-mail, the e-mail address you enter into the To?field is made up of the recipients phone number and their carriers SMS Gateway or MMS domain. In the phones text messaging app, type your recipients email address into the Recipient field, where you typically type in the phone number.

If your Recent Contacts list does not include the person you wish to send the text to, select New Message to input that persons details. Here, you will have to scroll down to the Send and Receive options, which will show you any linked email addresses, their iChat Account accounts, and the phone numbers that are linked in the Phone settings app.

In case this is not there yet, in order for their numbers to show up again as normal, you need to enable the option Start new conversations from their number rather than from any linked emails, that may be linked to their iChat account account, or whatever. This idea is going to bother you, but if you are able to reach your recipient somewhere else (on Facebook, Twitter, or Snapchat, for instance), it is highly unlikely that they blocked your number.

If your number is an issue, you could have a friend do the same once you have reverted the phone, so that you do not get messages sent to their email addresses. If someone is telling you your email appears in their text messages logs rather than their regular contacts, there is one setting that you can control from your end that may be causing the issue.

One example is the 404 auto-forwarding SMS, which forwards texts from your phone to your email account, forwards texts with certain keywords, sends notifications when the battery is running low, and alerts you to missed calls. In addition to forwarding your texts, the third-party app lets you filter by keywords and send texts from certain numbers to certain emails.

The easiest way to automate forwarding of your conversations to email using your Android device is through a third-party app. Sending text messages from your Android device to an email account is as simple as selecting a message and deciding where to send it.

If customers choose to communicate with your customer service reps through text messages, for instance, you will want to have a central location where reps see the messages coming in, like a common email inbox.

Sure, here’s a table summarizing the possible reasons why your email shows up when you text:

Possible ReasonDescription
iMessage SettingsIf you have your iMessage settings configured to use your Apple ID email instead of your phone number, your email address will show up when you send text messages to other iOS or macOS users.
Contact InformationIf the person you are texting has your email address saved in their contacts, it will show up as your contact information when you send them a text message.
Group MessagesIf you are part of a group message conversation and someone in the group has your email address saved in their contacts, it may show up as your contact information for everyone in the group.
Message ForwardingIf you have message forwarding set up to send text messages to your other Apple devices, your email address may show up as your contact information on those devices.
Why does my email show up when I text?

While you could send individual texts or relay them manually, there are apps and configurations out there that will systematically send texts to a set email address. A major difference between turn-based communications–email, texts, and apps such as Facebook Messenger–and live communications through a phone or video chat is that you can respond to the message whenever you are ready. This option may be slightly more convenient when you are dealing with a whole texting conversation instead of just one text.

You will get replies in your Gmail inbox, which you can respond to in order to continue the conversation with the mobile user. Our recommended extension even lets you turn this around to receive text alerts on important emails that you get on Gmail, which might be a good thing to do if you are out and about and you have a specific email conversation to keep track of. If you type in an email that you want to send, then tap on the phone icon, it will pull up your Gmail contacts list, and you can look in there to find the person that you want to send the message to.

Keep in mind, if you are trying to send an email longer than 160 characters, it will typically send via Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS). Some carriers also offer e-mail-to-MMS gateways — details are provided in the table above — so if you want to send an e-mail message that is longer than 160 characters, please use the MMS Gateway rather than an SMS Gateway.

If your email provider does not support Push Notifications (where emails are sent to your phone when they arrive, in real-time), they will automatically turn on Fetch (where your phone fetches emails periodically, at pre-set times). While the method described here does not technically send your messages to your email address, it will send your texts to whatever iOS device you are signed in and enabled on your iPhones settings. Note that the latter two methods will presume you have already configured an email account in your iPhone.

After trying the main steps, you may want to then try refreshing the Mail app manually to see if your emails are updated. You should try rebooting the iPhone to get things off to a clean start — this should hopefully make the unsent emails start updating again. I changed my phones caller ID back to the phone number, deleted any threads of texts created while using the email address, and started a new thread.

Usually, the sender will appear to be your phone number, and there is no subject line for messages. Under Send and Receive,a you should see a section titled Start new conversation from.a Make sure that your phone number has a tick box next to it.

Why are my Messages not syncing on my Mac?

Start iMessage, navigate to the Messages menu, click Preferences, and then open the iMessage section in order to force sync and refresh iMessage on Mac. Click on the Sync Now option and wait for the process to complete. If the option is grayed out, then first check Enable Messages in iCloud.

How do I stop messages from going to an email address?

If you’re receiving messages in your email inbox that are intended for your iPhone’s Messages app, all you should do is Open the Settings app on your iPhone, Scroll down, and tap on “Messages.” Scroll down to the “SMS/MMS” section and turn off the “Forward Text Messages” option. If you have other devices connected to the same Apple ID, such as an iPad or Mac, repeat the above steps on each device to turn off text message forwarding.
