Airpods In Rice
The ideal location for leaving your AirPods is somewhere cold, dry, and with a light breeze. No matter what other people tell you, you shouldn’t dry your AirPods in a bag of rice. This isn’t any more efficient than the open air and may cause rice grains to become lodged in the different ports and apertures.
If your Apple Airpods stops working after you have dried them off, you should contact Apple support to receive a replacement. Before using your Airpods again, or keeping them stored away in the case that charges them, they must be fully dried, Apple advises. If you keep AirPods in a closed area, the AirPods cannot properly dry, and if water leaks out of them, they are likely to damage the charging case. If you soak the AirPods in water for an extended period of time, chances are it will damage it.
If your AirPods do get wet, there is no guarantee that they will continue working, even when you do follow the instructions mentioned above to dry them out. If, once they have been wet, the AirPods do not charge up and do not function at all, that is probably another indication your AirPods got damaged by water. The longer you wait to clean or dry out your AirPods after heavy exercise, the greater your risk of water getting into them and damaging the electronics.
If you have got something on your AirPods that is not pure water, wipe it with a wet washcloth, then allow the AirPods to dry. If you accidentally hosed your AirPods down, you should try and use the towel to remove as much water from the AirPods as possible. If water has got into small parts of your AirPods, you can lightly pat them down with dry cotton pads.
Use a microfibre cloth or a lint-free one to slowly dry out any affected areas on your AirPods housing. If damp AirPods do become wet, use a dry, lint-free towel to wipe away any remaining water. Once possible, dry a set of AirPods with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth, like a microfiber towel. If you do manage to get any of your standard AirPods or Water Resistant Airpod Pros wet, be sure to dry it off completely before using it again.

Dry the AirPods off as soon as possible, wiping off any visible water or drops. If, after a few minutes of drying, your precious AirPods appear to be dry, then continue trying to use them. Before you even attempt to plug them into your phone or use them, just thoroughly dry them off with a microfiber cloth and allow them to hang upside-down to dry. The two most secure solutions for fixing airPods are shaking the AirPods free from all the excess water, drying them off with a microfiber cloth, and leaving them in the plain dry solution.

Your first step should be to dry off the outer AirPods surface with a microfiber cloth. Drying the surface will, at a minimum, keep any additional water out of the AirPods.
If your AirPods were dropped into a cup of water, and your housing is secure, then you may want to investigate this method. If you discover any water inside the AirPods, you will need to look at a different approach, or this could lead to a problem with earbuds that do not work, which our guide will address. If AirPods are not working after airpods are dried and you tried Water Extraction shortcut, then the only remaining option is to replace. After the excess water is removed, AirPods can be placed into several environments or solutions which help them dry faster, but do not harm the electronics.
While Apple recommends this method, you can also use Desiccant Packets or a blow dryer to dry out wet areas on the AirPods and return them to their usual state. Never be tempted to use a blow dryer or put AirPods on the radiator to expedite the drying process. Be patient, and do not use products that will force airpods dry, such as a blow dryer at a high temperature, because it will overheat and damage the AirPods permanently.
Allow the AirPods cases to dry out over 24 hours, and do not try to speed the process with a blow dryer or heat. After one to one hour, you are encouraged to allow AirPods to dry naturally for at least one full day. We recommend giving Airpods a minimum of two or three hours, but even better is one night. Leave damp AirPods overnight to dry out, if possible, and do not use them in that period of time.
Keep AirPods away from radiators, and avoid using hairdryers to expedite the drying process. Make sure that the AirPods are fully dry before placing your AirPods back into their charging case, so you do not damage the case by allowing any remaining water to soak in. When you see water leaching inside of water-damaged AirPods, do not try to dry them out by placing them back into their cases, as doing so can make water damage done to the device even worse. When using a damp cloth or swab to wipe down water-damaged AirPods, make sure you only wet out the cloth or swab — do not place too much water, because it can soaked through the AirPods and soak into speaker holes and things like that.
Some of this (like placing it in rice) seems like it could possibly work, but you should avoid doing this to preserve your water-damaged AirPods. If you dropped the AirPods cases into dirty water, you can clean your AirPods cases using rubbing alcohol and a wet washcloth. If you still cannot get rid of the messy liquid, try using another method to clean the AirPods instead. In case you do happen to soak an AirPod in liquid, Apple suggests using a microfiber cloth to wipe down both the headphones and charging case.
The best way to dry their charging case should it get wet is to take off the earbuds and hold the case upside-down, with the cover exposed. Unfortunately, this method is no more efficient than just letting the damp AirPods dry in air (excuse the pun).
