To review, the “share” button on Android phones resembles a “less-than” symbol with circles at each point, but on iPhones, it appears as an arrow pointing out of a square. On your iPhone, open the Settings app, then scroll down to locate FaceTime. After selecting FaceTime, select SharePlay.

The share icon, featuring arrows pointed up, was first introduced when Apple announced iOS 7 on the WWDC2013 stage. When you tap on the share icon within iOS apps such as Photos, you are taken to the Multi-Purpose Share Card, or Activity View.

Under an apps share panel, you can see a list of different actions, such as copying photos or saving them to files. You can access options for any app by tapping on the blue “Options” button on top of the sharing sheet. When you are sharing photos with friends, and want to keep quality and metadata about your photos, you will have to tap the options button at the top of the menu.

Under your Recent Contacts list, you will see a list of apps that you can use to share files from your iPhone. You can share quickly with any of these apps by tapping each one, and then following the on-screen directions. Here, you will see which of these apps are favorite, meaning they are always displayed on your Share card, and which of these apps are suggest, apps that iOS thinks you may want to share with.

There are a range of features and apps that show up in iOSs Share menu by default, but you will see many more show up if you install third-party apps that support this feature. If you install many apps that support The Share Menu, you could quickly get yourself with a long list of icons you have to scroll through to find the icon you are looking for. Interestingly, some apps use different Share icons depending on your OS, while others cover your whole OS with a single share icon.

As you can see in the image above, Netflix has applied all of the same icons no matter what OS it is, with the exception of share icons. Since Airbnb is an app that is applied Googles material, other icons (back button, heart, and so on) and the share icons are using the stock icons from Android OS.

The top row of icons are Your favorites and suggestions, which are compromises between the apps own user selections as well as suggestions from iOS 13. Here, you will find your Favorites (actions that you use the most) on the top, followed by actions that are specific to the current app (such as adding bookmarks in Safari) and more actions. Heres how to add the Add Quick Note action to your Actions list, although unless you are using iOS 16 just yet, you can use this same process to add a lot of other actions too.

To add app-specific actions (such as Copy iCloud links option in Photos apps) to a favorites section, you will need to repeat the process from a shared sheet within the given app. Now, you can customise the iPhones share sheet, adding preferred apps and organizing your list of actions according to preferences. From saving an image to sending media to certain apps and people, the Share button and the Share Sheet let you do an endless amount of things on the iPhone, virtually without effort.

For instance, besides sharing pictures, Share Sheet within Photos lets you copy an image, play it back in a slide show, or set it as the iPhones wallpaper. Apple introduced a share button in iOS 8 in 2014, and the share button lets you share documents, images, and other items among apps, services, and other people. Many iPhone users are complaining about not seeing a Share option on photos and documents after installing the iOS 14/13 update.

You will also find the sharing icons redesigned, as well as a number of extra share items, within Photos — it is important to check out your sharing options across any apps that you use regularly, since contextual share items might look a bit different in some. Note that changes made to section two will alter the share panel displayed across all of your other iPhone apps. When modifying the second section, remember you must already have the app installed on your iPhone in order to make it appear on your Share Sheet.

Depending on machine learning algorithms, the app might appear immediately on the iOS share sheet, or it might need some shares before it is registered as favorited. Depending on the app, you might have to add contacts or other selections before sending, posting, or publishing.

For example, if you are not using Mail as the default email app on your iPhone, you can swap out Mail with any mail app you choose. For instance, if you are used to sharing photos or links over WhatsApp, then there is no need to adopt a new method. You could, say, share an awesome app you found on the App Store with friends in just a few taps of the Messages extension, or tweet out an interesting article without having to exit Safari.

Using a Quick Share panel, you can share selected data within a Messages thread quickly, without having to look up a contact (as you would need to do in iOS 12). For Android OS, One-to-Many is a concept that spreads information in multiple places, like how a sharing icon looks.

It shows differences in not just the shape of a share icon, but the function it has once it is clicked. Once users are used to a share icon, I would anticipate it could be used with no header for at least 2-3 years, as well as becoming the only icon that represents sharing from any location. At the moment, The share icon cannot be combined to be unified across OSes, but I can see a future, and possibilities, of sharing icons on the case of Facebook and Youtube.

The reason why it is called is that share icon triggers a modal that contains not just list of apps, but actions such as airdrop, copy, favorites, or save. In third-party apps such as Instagram and Reddit, share buttons can be hidden under a “More” button, often represented by the “ellipsis” icon.

While you cannot delete AirDrop from the list, you can delete or reorder the other two apps, replacing them with whatever apps you like. The top three apps in the list, AirDrop, Messages, and Mail, are there forever, and the others are rotating depending on how much use you have been doing recently. The Share sheet provides a simple way to access different actions, and allows you to include even favorites actions, which are presented near the top of the list.
