Macbooks are often praised for their sleek design, reliable performance, and user-friendly interface. However, they can be more expensive than Dell laptops, and some users find them less customizable. Dell laptops, on the other hand, are more affordable and offer a wider range of customization options.
Two major differences are that Dells new XPS 13 offers the OLED Display and Touch Screen options. The laptops displays are similar in size, but they are not the same, with Apples MacBook Pro, which has a 13.3-inch M1 display, and the XPS 13 being a little larger, at 13.4 inches. The two laptops are fairly similarly sized, with the updated MacBook Air from Apple measuring 11.97 inches by 8.46 inches, and the Dells smaller at 11.63 inches by 7.84 inches.
The overall proximity of the Dell XPS 13 Plus to Apples updated MacBook Airs looks and performance does detract somewhat. The MacBook Pro 13 falls short of the Dell XPS 13 Plus when it comes to specs, but the MacBook Pro 13 is still an extremely capable laptop running Apples popular macOS. The Dell XPS 13 will probably have similar performance, making it a far faster laptop than the XPS 13, suitable for demanding creative tasks as well as grinding out a productive workflow.
While Dells XPS 13 wins on aspects such as price, portability, and features such as Windows Hello, the new MacBook Pro 14 has a much more capable processor unit capable of handling just about anything you throw at it. While the former is better for pro creators that need as much horsepower as they can get, The Dell XPS 13 is perfect for folks that primarily use a browser and productivity apps for work, and want a thin, portable machine. On the Dell side, a lot of users are probably going to need a faster CPU (you can bump that to Core i5 for about the same price as a starting 13-inch MacBook Pro configuration), and on either laptop, you might need a bit more storage. You can bump the core system memory to 32GB, and you can throw a far larger SSD into the mix (the Dell XPS 13 tops out at 2TB, whereas the MacBook Pro goes all the way to 4TB, though it is very expensive).
The highest Core i7 chip, again, adds 16GB of memory for $1,699 (buy from Dell). Swapping the 8-core M1 Pro chip for the 10-core M1 Pro, for example, would set you back another $200. The Come may prove to be an issue for the Macbook Air line, since you would be paying a similar price to Dells laptop, but getting lower-spec parts. A good lower-cost alternative is the Dell Inspiron 16 Plus, which does not make it into the top tier, mostly due to the lower build quality. The Dell Inspiron 16 Plus, which I am guessing you would like to have the metal frame, better screen, and higher-end components if you are looking for an equivalent of a MacBook Pro. If you want something roughly matching the 14-inch Pro in terms of design, size, and weight, the Blade 14 is your choice; its smaller sibling, the Razer Book 13, makes an excellent alternative to the 13-inch MacBook Pro if you need something slightly smaller and cheaper. A smaller version of the 14-inch Pro, its smaller sibling packs plenty of gaming horsepower for its size without feeling tiny — a major consideration in a gaming laptop, and something that Apple does not need to bother with — but it has good battery life, good travel dimensions, and a subdued design (for a gaming laptop) that is stout enough for sitting down at the bosses desk or sitting down at the desk, but is not too fussy.
It is heavier than a MacBook, but not overwhelmingly so, particularly given the larger 17-inch screen. The slightly larger XPS 13s screen size is, however, possible within that slimmer frame thanks to its ultra-thin screen bezel, which makes the display feel slightly more spacious, and a lot more contemporary, than a MacBook Pros panel and its thicker borders. It is also worth noting that, true to XPS 13s legacy, the XPS 13 Plus has Infinity Display, which squeezes every last inch out of the arrangement to give you the biggest screen on the smallest possible machine.
Another big difference is the fact that Dells XPS 13 displays are touch-enabled on certain configurations (our testers had Touch), whereas Apples screens are touch-free throughout. This makes the MacBooks Touch Bar a little more useful than it is on Windows PCs. Apples updated MacBook Air uses Touch ID on its keyboard, and Dells fingerprint reader serves a similar function.

Creatives with special needs are probably going to prefer the superb creative-oriented programs of the MacBook Pro 13, but for most, the 12th Gen Intels and the power of Windows make the Dell XPS 13 Plus a better choice. We think that the Dell XPS 13 Plus will do better for average users, as Windows 11, supported by the excellent processor and faster memory, is better at getting overall productivity work done in multiple different apps simultaneously.
