In Images, albums and folders vary in that albums house your photos, whilst folders house your albums. If you will, it has a hierarchy of sorts. We’ll demonstrate how to create folders in Photographs for iPhone, iPad, and Mac so that you may better organise your photos and albums.

For now, we are going to look at creating a folder of iPhone photos, and nested additional albums or folders inside of the main folder. Keep your photo library organized by creating albums and folders within the Photos app on your iPhone or iPad. One way to organise items in photos is by creating albums, which you can do on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

To help you organize your Photos and albums even more, we are going to walk through how to create folders in Photos on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. If you are really looking to know how to organize photos in albums on iPhone or iPad, you will want to know how to add photos into an existing album. If you have several photos and videos that you would like to organize on an Apple iPhone, albums are a great option. To organize photos, you may have to add them into their respective albums.

You can also manage photos within iCloud Photos, and move photos between albums. Then, you can collect a few vintage photo albums to look back at whenever you are sick of scrolling on your device and you would like to revisit a fond memory. Folders and albums are great for creating a neatly organized photo gallery. No matter what your photography genre or workflow, albums can offer another level of organization to your photos.

Learning how to use both folder and album organization in your organizing efforts will make finding particular photos, as well as browsing your memories, more effective and enjoyable. If you find that you are constantly scanning your photo library in order to choose photos that you would like to edit and share, we suggest creating folders for “To Edit” and “Edited” within your albums. Fortunately, folders and albums within the Photos app will let you organise all of your photos, so you will always find the one you are looking for, no need to delete any.

You cannot drag and drop folders to albums in iOS 12, so you have to create a new album within the folder, and then manually choose photos to add. If you donat want Albums to show up in your album card, you can hide it, but then youall need to re-hide it to open the folder and see images. To remove an album (which does not wipe images within), touch albums, then See All, and then Edit.

Once you add albums to your folder, you can manage them just like albums do in MacOS Photos app, including sorting and moving albums around in your list. The difference between albums and folders is the fact that you cannot add single photos to a folder, you can only add existing albums and other folders.

Unfortunately, you cannot move an already existing album of photos to the album folder that you created, but this is something we hope will be added to a future OS. Hopefully, Apple updates the Photos app in iOS so moving albums to folders is just as simple as on a Mac; just drag and drop. Adding photos to albums means slightly more work from an organisational standpoint (either at the time of taking an image, or at some point afterwards), but can save a ton of time when you have to look up images again, or remove a particular set of images.

Once you have simplified your camera roll, create a set of albums in the My Albums section to organize your photos. Take a mental inventory of which photos you tend to gravitate toward taking, and then build out your albums from there, according to what makes sense. Including albums gives you an amazing amount of flexibility, to organize photos countless ways that will help you find your treasured memories whenever you need to.
